If you are, and you haven't made 20 posts yet, then you will be unable to flag.
I was unaware of your virginal status within these forums.

I find it bizarre that you think the next major human advancement - after einsteins theory of relativity (a scientific theory) is compassion effectively moving from one category to another.
Now, while I don't at all devalue compassion, and I myself find it to be an indispensable aspect of human reality, it has absolutely nothing to do with einsteins theory or the concept of 'advancement' all together, inasmuch as the former deals with a progression in mans understanding of the physical universe (and so is discursive ) while the latter is a mere feeling one has for another person.
Truth be told, there is an advancement to be made and the scientists at CERN are intuitively aware of what it is: exposing the connection between mind and matter, or, in more technical terms, the causal relationship between archetypes and quantum mechanics.
This will be the ultimate theory, accounting for how the world works and how we ourselves fit into it - not as 'creatures' but as beings intimately united with the cosmos

Nope...unless you're a new member.

We started out as explorers of the physical universe. Once that exploration's climax discovers a link between the physical universe and the life in the universe, then we will begin our exploration of the mental universe.
The exploration will be just as important and just as practical and compassion will be the first stepping stone into a vast new way of understanding.

You don't have to wait on aliens to see that. Just go to the zoo and look at the jaguars. You can tell they want to eat you. Its scary but sobering at the same time.

The golden rule was invented before relativity... Weak thread. We all understand this concept and how it can help the world. More people understand this than the theory of relativity. NEXT

Thanks for the thoughts! I just watched the video of the dying teen saying goodbye (ATS Thread) and could use the positive energy.
This is the golden rule. This is karma. I totally agree with your assessment that the world would be a better place if it were practiced more. But I disagree with your premise.
I think humans are built with both love and hate and as such we will never actualize as a wholly compassion being because of this. There will always be psychopaths and sociopaths that even if they did put themselves in others shoes, will not be deterred by what they see. The argument, of course, is that if we all were golden then we would see such afflictions disappear. I don't believe that, but we can let that lie. Instead how about if we further the thought and consider having compassion for plants as well as animals. Would we end up starving?
I believe intelligence trumps compassion.

Anyway, what do you think of the whole Compassion vs. Altruism thing?
the fly cares about being a fly relatively just as much as you care about being a human and the one observer cares about each of you equally.
