Bitcoin and ATS, as sugested by ChaoticOrder

This post in a thread I made earlier (just checked up on it now to give stars) had a good idea, it might be beneficial to ATS members to be able to 'tip' one another with Bitcoins as well as star and flag the threads or posts they would make.

It's not exactly 'buying' speech but go a bit further in thanking someone for posting information that others like.

I understand ATS might have some legal complications with that, being a currency exchange is not always the right business for every website. However I think that if it were introduced, giving members some lateral leeway to slap each other some digital currency that of course AboveTopSecret might be able to hold out not only a helping hand but a bit of a high-five as well.

ATS might be able to use the amount of bitcoins given willingly by its users, however I understand that because it might be a large legal hassle and coding it would take a while that the Admins might just let this opportunity pass on by.

Uhm, I don't have any bitcoins, but others that do might be able to introduce the subject with only a small amount of text for members that choose to opt-into such a program. Since I stand to make no bitcoins from the suggestion as it stands I do not feel biased for or against it. I just see the benefits and some of the pitfalls.

If I could be paid bitcoins to surf ATS I'd probably start mining them, I've gotten points kinda quickly I think.

Mods control everything.

We get Stars + Flags, which determine contribution.

ATS is above other forums by a large margin.

That's kind of a ridiculous idea.

I agree.

Money should not be an issue for members, ever, in any way.

Why would people want to pay money for posts they like? Legally, all posts belong to ATS so all the tips would go to them anyway.

The idea is similar to how stars are a bad idea, it's just a hindrance for the most part.

Hah, just found this thread. I've already started doing it. No tips yet though.

And it does work you guys, there are already websites where you can tip posts.

You just tip micro-amounts, and I think it's useful because it encourages people to put the energy required to create awesome threads if they know they might get something back from it other than a debate with skeptics.

Actually that is EXACTLY what ATS is about.

We've had stars, medals (gold, silver, bronze) we've had categories for how amazing you are as a member (Godlike wisdom etc), we've had status symbols, we have points, we've had different coloured bars..... we may still have all of this, I never check and honestly couldn't care less about it all.

Seriously.

There has been some pretty crazy threads and arguments about all of this on here over the years.
This big popularity contest.

Sadly some members "thrive" on the adoration and recognition and status that they "think" they achieve and deserve.


So I wish you were right and that content was ALL that mattered.

Sadly, too many egos here for that to be all that matters.

Its not a crazy idea really. We use a currency on ATS.Stars and Flags..Only difference is payment is one way. Bitcoins could be generated and a small payment could be used. There is nothing I can see wrong with the idea..

I don't think it would work. As a mod pointed out rather well concerning a thread made asking about the W and K and what it means.

The 8 th post down from a moderator points out great reasons for why they are against the system and I feel this would fall under those reasons. They pointed out how some ATS'ers will cheat the system and give stars for such reasons as liking an individuals Avatar, feeling sorry for an ATSer who was flamed because some one didnt agree and so friends feel sorry and start passing out stars.

I feel it would be abused for those reasons and many more. I like to think when I see more stars then post I'm talking to someone that knows there stuff...instead,,,I could be listening to someone that is well liked and for popularity reasons are getting stars....and not for their intelligence.
