Are you guys unable to talk about how not-great your candidate is doing? All I ever see in these threads are people saying "hey, he DID won this and that, he MUST be the prime candidate!"

Reality-check, people: is there a real chance or is every chance done for?

I don't see anyone on ATS bragging about how great Mitt Romney is and how he is their candidate of choice.

I don't see Romney rallies with hundreds, thousands, or more screaming wildly for his erection.

Even the Obama supporters are fairly mute as compared with 2008 rhetoric.

It's not what you see that matters many times... it's what you don't see.

Since many of us are aware of what to look for... when it's MISSING, that too is a red flag.

Thank God, that would be one freaky weird rally that I could do without attending.

A friend of mine said Ron Paul is unerectable.

Maybe, at his age, but more likely the opposite. Does anyone besides Bruno have any inside-the-beltway information on this?

I have a suspicion!!
Why would the number 2 drop out relatively early, closely followed by the number 3?
I suspect that Romney camp and the GOP anticipated what we see unfolding before our eyes. Basically, come this summer, Romney would need to go into the convention with 1144 delegates won in order to secure the nomination. As the GOP sees, Santorum and Gingrich were pulling a large number of the popular vote away from Romney (supposedly). Therefore, the momentum at that time would prevent any candidate from reaching the needed 1144. Furthermore, they could see the momentum Paul has been picking up with the unbound delegates. So in the event of an open floor vote at the convention, Paul would easily win on delegates.
Now, as Santorum and Gingrich drop out, who do they endorse? Exactly!! The GOP does not want Paul to win, therefore, they already see that there only chance to keep that from happening is for Santorum and Gingrich to drop out, allowing the glint of a chance that Romney could obtain 1144 by summers end.

What kind of voting system is this?

It's a political party choosing their candidate. Calling it a "voting system" might be a little much. I see that you're from Germany. I guarantee that CDU or SPD choose their candidates in a similar way. It's just not as apparent because in America, unlike in Germany, the masses join political parties as opposed to just those that are really into politics.

Someone gets not the majority of peoples votes yet gets to be candidate b/c of what?

That's because what matters is the delegates that go to the convention (similar to the Parteitag), who support the candidate. Basically the "votes" are just a straw poll showing who the masses in the party like. But the delegates are the king makers.

Could someone do the arithmetics or point me to a site with reliable numbers of delegates? I mean, you are all so sure about his wins, there must be some kind of proof to that, right?

It's not possible to do the math or point to an accurate counting of the delegates right now because the overwhelming majority of them haven't been chosen yet. All the numbers that you see floating around are just guesses.

As a Washington State resident and voter this news is extremely encouraging! My survey of the population in my city shows either support for Ron Paul or careless ignorance of the entire political system. If in the general election he does not win this county it will be almost irrefutable proof of voting fraud. I feel it is necessary to devise and publicize a method to overcome voting fraud, perhaps we the people could find a way to assess ourselves instead of leaving the powers that be to count and discount our rightful votes! It is obvious that such a breach of freedom is impending once again as it does during any US election, so really it seems to be the only logical course of action; that is, to take action.

There's this guy
www.abovetopsecret.com...

So went in with a response video about Romney's flip-flops. From there, I could see he was completely blind.

Congressman Paul is the most clever of all the candidates. By going for and recruiting candidates early, he nearly cinched a victory...if nothing else...he cinched a Romney defeat. here is the thing....

IF RP loses the nomination...he has still acquired a HUGE number of supporters who will follow him regardless of the ticket. Unlike in years past where the delegates roll over and take it in the butt....his delegates will follow him IF he chooses to go "third party". If that happens...the Repubs have absolutely no chance of beating the POTUS. If RP gets the Nomination....then....they get the Repub vote AND the independents and Democrats that are not happy with POTUS Obama....it is a freaking win-win for Dr. Paul....

me personally...I'm pretty stoked at his chances....I think the old fart can win....no....seriously and....in all honesty....what a clever plan! He knew what he was doing all along and the MSM....fearing the Constitution Revolution....ignored him....man do they have the potential of looking like retards....

Let this be a lesson to them....never call a race till the tape is broken....don't ever disregard the underdog....and never treat the "common" voter as stupid...

I hope this gets peope to turn them off and maybe''''just maybe....they will be forced to change their stupidity to regain trust and honor from their viewers...

This is because we are (supposed to be) a Republic, not a Democracy.

There is a set of rules the sovereign citizens and (supposed to be) heavily restricted federal government follow called the Constitution and the BIll of RIghts. If neither steps outside those rules one can do what they will.

Hey, I just donated some $$ to the ron Paul campaign. Just what I could afford(not much) but, it all adds up. If he wins the nom(and we can keep him alive ^^) he has an excellent shot of winning the presidency.

Yea, if only everyone that made it to the hill stood for good principle and not just a few.
edit on 26-4-2012 by RSF77 because: (no reason given)

Voters are responsible for sending people to The Hill who don't stand for good principles. Voters have no one to blame but themselves.

I wouldn't get my hopes up folks.

Delegate count so far:

Mittens Romney: 847
Ricky Santorum: 259
Newton Gingrich: 137
Ronnie P: 80 (sad face)

1144 needed to win and only 962 left so my man RP is mathematically eliminated.

Bummer eh?

I just read an article on CNN I think it was, that said RP would have to have a 'plurality of votes in at least 5 states to be considered. They said rule number 20 or 40, can't recall.

is that true?
