Fukushima Radition Levels/ U.S. Data & Info from ATS members

Hi all....I ran across Radition levels in St. Louis Mo. I wanted to share but then I thought....( yes it did hurt..lol)

Everyday people like us that have the equipment to test levels in their area, if we had 1 place for that Data ....
It would help us track,inform, ect ect....obviously Fox New's and sources like them aren't going to tell us the levels...

Also...I thought if someone comes across Radiation in food you could post that here to.

If you guys don't think this is a good idea,,,(members of ATS) we can take this down no problem....I just thought if we had a running data bank of our own?

The reading that I have comes out of St. Louis Mo....I'm on my iPad and I think that's why I'm having problems embedding videos....sorry bout that. ( if anyone knows what I'm doing wrong....

statistics:
Date of measurement : 4/25/2012 @ 530pm CDT approx.
Total 10 minute count using two identical counters :
544 and 545 = 54.4 and 54.5 (CPM average)
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Approx. Coordinates (not exact) : 38°34'20"N , 90°18'10"W
Elevation : 428 feet
Measurements taken: ten mintue long CPM measurement using two "inspector alert" nuclear radiation monitors (geiger counter), and one CDV-700 (beta/gamma counter).
from the inspector alert geiger counter manual:
"CPM (or CPS) and total counts are the most direct methods of measurement; mR/hr (or uSv/hr) is calculated using a conversion factor optimized for Cesium-137, so this mode is less accurate for other radionuclides, unless you have calibrated the "geiger counter" for a specific radionuclide using an appropriate source. It is more appropriate to measure alpha and beta activity using CPM than using mR/hr. Conversion for alpha and beta emitters is calcuated differently, and the "geiger counters" reading in mR/hr may not be accurate."

I got a rain swipe reading here in Pennsylvania of 150 CPM last week and 100 CPM yesterday.

I did the preverbal search and didn't find anything when thinking of this idea....I went to your link and I was ready to say...ok..maybe I should get a mod to take this down but....the other link might be confusing for some since it doesn't say " running data" or something like that....

I certainly agree this information is critical since the govt. is intentionally keeping it hidden or none existent.

Maybe put a link for Aircooled and others to see in the thread I linked to.

A thread like this would be good to condense readings for all to see, so sure, it looks good to me.

You all know that the Potassium-40 contained naturally in your body gives you about 4,000 counts per SECOND, right?

Potassium-40 is the largest source of natural radioactivity in animals and humans. An adult human body contains about 160 grams of potassium, hence about 0.000117 x 160 = 0.0187 grams of 40K; whose decay produces about 4,400 disintegrations per second (becquerels) continuously throughout the life of the body.

Iodine 131 8 days dissolves in water thyroid (~100 days) thyroid cancer
Cesium 137 30 years dissolves in water everywhere cancer of liver, kidneys, pancreas
Strontium 90 29 years mimics calcium in body bones, teeth (30 years) leukemia
Plutonium Various Up to 83 million years inhaled; P-241 decays to Am-241 liver (20 yrs) bones (50 yrs) various cancers
Americium 241 430 years inhaled or ingested in food, water liver (20 yrs) bones (50 yrs) various cancers

But then again, your body lacks the ability to manufacture ANY elementary atom... so, I don't know quite what you mean when you say that.

Potassium-40 is naturally occurring though... and can be found alongside it's more stable sibling, Potassium 39.

I'm willing to bet that you merely copy/pasted this little snippet of text from a website that you thought would be particularly damming...

Unfortunately, the information seems to be that from a table of some sort, and the requisite format and headings of the columns are missing, thus, the inclusion of this information is somewhat.... vague, and lacking in relevancy.

What, exactly, were you trying to say?

Oh, and by the way, you should know that the NATURALLY OCCURRING Potassium-40 in your body CAN cause cancer.

Ive asked them to take this thread down... I didn't realize there was an on-going radiation report....under Japan.

Well thank you...I didn't think staying informed was fear mongering. 4 nuke plants destroyed....Nuke plants!!!!

I appreciate that you came into my topic....which was to verify levels of radiation in the U.S. and else where...to have your debate. Your so good at giving thread locations....find the thread that deals w/ that topic!

I see no harm in everyday ATS'ers posting readings from their area....hopefully data compiled will show no high levels....that's if we can weed threw the rude post that have nothing to do w/ THIS THREAD!!!!

I did nothing to scare people...your arguments however......can do just that..so again....find a thread that bares your topic and stop messing up mine....errrrr although I did mention for mods to take it down since you can find this info in the Japan Crisis thread....although....this would be good for what the original idea was.....and just that data! Nothing else!!!!

this thread isn't about fear mongering nor discussing the various isotopes and their impact on life forms.

it was made by the OP to keep an ongoing list of readings so everyone can benefit from the information and do with it what they will.

for anyone genuinely interested here is a site that list's some exposure levels considered safe. note that it goes down quite a bit the younger you are and also for pregnant women.

i think the biggest concern will be for pregnant women and children. Fuku alone (at the moment) isn't a grave concern for what has been released, but if things get worse it could become very dangerous and it's not looking like they can fix it for many, many years.

My Sincerest apologies for the misunderstanding, I never meant to indicate that your thread WAS about fearmongering.

I see that your thread, as indicated from the OP, exists solely to gather information and data on the levels of radiation that are actively monitored by fellow ATS'ers.

And I happen to wholeheartedly agree with this sort of scientific inquiry, and rational discourse.

It was my own fault for being so vague in my post, and what I said.

What I was meaning, that I see I failed almost completely to convey without ambiguity, was to elucidate my perspective that the Radiation fears from Japan are attempts to fear-monger, to the detriment of the island nation.

You have to understand, that the bigger picture is nessecary for a complete understanding of the topic at hand, and why the measured radiation levels do not match the "Official Story"

You see, about 6 months before the "Incident" at fukushima, Japan offered to refine, and sell commercial grade uranium to the nation of Iran.

This upset a few, relatively powerful people.

Thus, this fearmongering of "OMG! RADIATION GOING TO KILL ALL OF JAPAN AND THE WORLD" is basically an attack on the economic strength (imports, exports, tourism) of the island nation as a REPRISAL against their attempt to sell enriched, commercial grade uranium to Iran.

This whole operation was carried out by Mossad, the intelligence arm of Israel, because they do not want an energy independent Iran.

What they WANT, is an Iran that has to bow to the international energy consortium's that are more or less under their control.

And this, is all an attempt to subvert the Iranian Central bank, that does not pay homage, or interest to the global Central banking cartels.

I applaud your thread, and it's purpose, and demeanour.
