'Farewell Intercourse' law allowing sex with dead wives sparks fury in Egypt

I have an alternate take on this.

It is possible the cleric is slyly addressing the "elephant in the room", knowing full well the tabling of this law will provoke discussion that ultimately leads to a centuries old tradition being outlawed instead of ignored.
To tackle it head on and attempt to table a law outlawing necrophilia might mean political suicide.

This sort of thing takes place in the west on a daily basis, but with subjects less controversial - why else do we see politicians "flip flop" so regularly. It takes the same trick being played in another country for us to see it.

Or it could be his wife said to him "over my dead body", so he retaliated "I can make that legal you know".
Ok the last line was a joke in bad taste, and I apologize if it offends.

Along with the rather grim “farewell Intercourse” draft law, parliament is also set to approve legislation that would allow girls as young as 14 to get married.

I thought not much else could be worse than necrophelia, but apparently I am wrong.

You raise an excellent point and I can see the reasoning behind it all too well.

It's a hell of a risk though knowing the level of international condemnation that it may bring and perhaps not the best advertisement for any new government.

Time will tell though if the law goes ahead.

That's a very good point you make there. Obviously this is a long standing practise, it doesn't make sense that someone suddenly came up with the idea "let's start having sex with our dead wives and make it a law".

It must have been going on a long time. Now wether it is like you suggest to tackle the problem, or because the new government is more radical than the former is the question.

I suspect the latter.

Now Bosniac can say this was done by Masonic influences, to create islamophobia, but obviously the practise was going on before that.

Not surprised one bit. Egypt is a completely different culture. 82 % of egyptian muslims support stoning people who commit adultery, 84 % support death penalty for those who leave the Muslim religion. So necrophilia still sounds like a walk in the park compared to these.

So far the most disgusting and sick ideas these Islamists have come up with, as far as I'm concerned! Next they'll be enacting a law that allows the men to beat their dead wives with a stick, as long as it is within certain size limits. I suppose something like having sex with a dead wife is to be expected from a religion that permits sex with animals.
It scares me to think that the Islamic religion is spreading around the world at a pretty fast clip by followers who claim "refugee status" in countries such as mine... Canada! They arrive all nice and friendly, get taken care of by the government at the taxpayers' expense, then instead of starting out in a new life they bring their political and religious strifes with them. They make demands of the government, and in most cases get what they want. Being that most governments are comprised of the politically spineless who are in it only for themselves, this doesn't surprise me in the least, but what I can't understand is that most Canadians are letting this crap happen!

The only reason I can think of is so that people do not exaggerate a taboo to the point of obsession and perversity etc through fear and loathing.

Psychological reasons, which do not encourage people to do it, just that it shouldn't cause people to have permanent scars and trauma thinking about it.

You make perfect sense, if you ask me and this is my opinion I that the Islamic way of life is so screwed up it isn't surprising to come up with something like this!
