im not sure if anyone has noticed, but alot of people say "this tastes like chicken" or something of that nature. i couldnt help but think about this and i got a "crezy" idea in my head. what if the reason everything tastes like chicken is part or some government scheme to keep us all hooked on relatively same food and may try to poison us or something
or maybe everything just tastes similar to me
either way, id love to hear everyones thoughts on this

One of the deeper thoughts pondered in the movie The Matrix. Why does chicken taste like everything else?

Well it's quite simple really. First of all, people automatically associate this taste with chicken, probably because chicken is a very commonly eaten food, when in fact chicken and whatever food is being tasted share a common taste.

Chicken is a white meat, it's not surprising that other meats can taste similar. Rather than thinking everything tastes like chicken, you should be thinking that chicken shares a similar taste with the foods in question. Which is due to what the meat is made up of.

There is no "scheme", what would be the point of that? I hate it when people throw random conspiracy ideas out there because it usually shows how much of the community are mindless sheep willing to believe anything without any facts, evidence or even logic.

Sorry for the mini-rant.

tl;dr Chicken can easily share a common taste with other foods due to what it's made up of.

I've had some chicken that I suspected was cat a few times.
Chunks of not quite chickeny stuffs.

Mind you the brain and taste buds can play mad tricks. When I was expecting, every single curry I had tasted of pure salt. Like literally shoveling tablespoons of salt into my mouth. Weirdness.

ETA I think it was a choice one time between going with chicken or reptiles. Would you rather be tasting Reptillian?

Apparently quite a bit of the taste of chicken comes from bacteria and if you raise a chicken in totaly germ free conditions it doesn't really taste like chicken
link

So I guess the question should be, why does everything taste like bacteria

Thread title is bogus, I know plenty of things that don't taste like chicken...

Actually, pretty much anything that isn't chicken, doesn't taste like chicken.

Chicken is the only "meat" that exists in every culture and geographic location. It's the common denominator. When someone tries a new meat, they either decide the similarities or place it in another category entirely.

Guest: "I'm hungry, what's for dinner?"

Host: "Frog legs."

Guest: "Never had em. What do they taste like?"

Host: "Uhm, sorta like chicken."

The host implanted the idea into the guest"s mind. After dinner....

Guest: "Gee, those do taste like chicken, a bit juicer, but nice dense flesh, and tasty."

The guest has received the idea, and implemented a representation in his mind.

It's mind control. Plain and simple.
