A newly signed law could make Mississippi first state where no abortions can be performed .

Mississippi's governor has signed into law a bill requiring physicians performing abortions in the state to be a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist and to have admitting privileges at an area hospital.

"I believe that all human life is precious, and as governor, I will work to ensure that the lives of the born and unborn are protected in Mississippi," Gov. Phil Bryant said in a statement Monday.

He has previously expressed his desire that the state become "abortion free."

I'm not sure he legally can. The Supreme Court ruled that abortion is a right for women.. there are a lot of grey areas where states can make their own laws (such as can minors have them without parental consent) but.. to outlaw something the Supreme Court has already ruled on? Don't think it'll stand.

They can certainly try. It just means women will cross state lines to get it done... However that's not an excuse not to try to prevent this horror. Only 7% of abortions are done because of rape and medical emergencies. That means that in one year 39 million babies are aborted just because they are unwanted.

Abortion IS NOT A RIGHT... To be a RIGHT it MUST be in the Constitution or amended to it... which it is not. Get your facts straight.

Sorry, it is a right until overturned by the Supreme Court or by an amendment. The Supreme Court specifically said it was unconstitutional to ban the procedure.

Think of it this way, if right to have an abortion didn't exist, every religious zealot controlled state would have banned the procedure again. Instead they are trying to make it as hard as possible to get while not banning the procedure.
