Maybe the answer is to eliminate all direct welfare completely.

No food stamps, no cash welfare, no unemployment, etc.

Most recipients are able to work.

Most cities have plenty of unattended projects that need labor that the cities don't have the money for.

If the governments set up work details instead of welfare offices, and pay local minimum wages, that would solve the problem. Guaranteed work.

Even if people only work a few hours a day, that would equal the welfare amounts.

Of course, this would only apply to people who are not disabled or handicapped.
(probably the majority of recipients)

Recipients who are qualified could also be the daycare attendants.

Taxpayers get their money's worth and the recipients get their dignity and money.

Or is that just too radical ?

If they have paid into the system then they are entitled to take form the pool. Stop calling it stealing, because it isn't. People on welfare aren't stealing anything from you. It's a government program that anyone who has ever worked has paid into.
Where does the government get this money? Does the welfare fairy leave it under their pillow? NO! It is forcefully taken from taxpayers. It is stolen with the threat of force; either jail or death. They are worse than thieves and robbers for they get others to do their evil for them.

Tax loopholes and funneling money overseas cost the taxpayers a whole hell of a lot more then is ever paid out in welfare benefits.

There is a stink in my area because some companies exist in multiple states, but then funnel all their money through the state that doesn't have corporate taxes, shorting the other states of any tax revenue.

But lets pick on someone who gets 200 bucks a month for food, its easier.

One in seven Americans now rely on food stamps, which give low-income people - a family of four with an annual gross income of less than $29,064, for example - help to buy groceries.

"I'd say 80 percent of the people are working or just lost their job when they come in for food stamps," said Tom Gundersen, a supervisor for the Florida Department of Children and Families, which administers the federal program here.

nbcpolitics.msnbc.msn.com...

Take Indiana. JP Morgan gets 62 to 64 cents for each food stamp case handled monthly there. With 296,245 cases right now, that means the state is paying JP Morgan $183,672 a month on top of any other fees it collects. Indiana eliminated 100 full-time employees when it hired JP Morgan to make the program cost-neutral [..].

"Working poor" rate 7.2 percent in 2010

There were 4.8 million workers who lived below the poverty threshold and usually worked full time in 2010. Full-time workers were less likely to be among the working poor than were part-time workers. Among persons in the labor force for 27 weeks or more, 4.2 percent of those usually employed full time were classified as working poor, compared with 15.1 percent of part-time workers.

He's talking sense, perhaps they should contribute instead of sponging off tax-payers.

And he is singling out welfare moms as opposed to welfare dads?

In the video,

he said "people who are getting welfare".

the video is in the article 1/2 way down.

Your right as far as the welfare mom demographic..that being said, youngsters have not paid Into anything. The long time trend of driving our wages down is certainly a huge factor so this is such a tricky subject. I make a decent wage but have seen the industry working hard to turn me into a $8 an hour employee.

Then blame the government, do not blame the recipient. Statistically, they have paid into the pool so are entitled to take from it. They were "forced' to pay into it just like you were. It is called a social program, something most third world countries lack.

I would rather my neighbor receive food stamps that I have paid into than starve to death, I'm sorry that you feel otherwise.

People don't realize that "get back to work" isn't easy...especially during times of high unemployment. And even if they get a job, wages are now so depressed that they're often too low to live on. That's why we have all those working poors. In reality, those should be added to the unemployment figure because even though they work, they wouldn't survive on their own.

I know Switzerland for example is more expensive to live in than most parts of the US, but not SEVEN TIMES more expensive. That's how much the difference in pay is if you work an average job serving drinks during a catering event.

Wages for low to middle income jobs are an absolute disgrace in the US, and salary growth in that category over the past 25 years is a joke...especially compared to growth in salary for the top 1%.

No, they have generally not worked enough or made enough to pay into anything.

Should you CHOOSE to do so, that is great and well. However, as soon as FORCE is introduced into the equation it becomes EVIL. The persons receiving the funds are the ones responsible. They are the ones "contracting" the people collecting the funds by force for their use. If I hire you to murder someone, I am just as guilty of that murder as you are for pulling the trigger.

That is what happens when you elect politicians, of any stripe, that pander to the least common denominator.

So do you actually think if overnight welfare was no more you would have more money?

You should no better then to think this has anything to do to help the American people at all.

Taxes will not go down simply put.

I usually lean quite a bit to the Left politically, but Romney is going in the CORRECT direction here.
[color=gold]This is one topic where Republicans are 100% CORRECT!!!!

We NEED to get people OFF welfare. It should only be a TEMPORARY SOLUTION. Way too many are using it as a LIFETIME VACATION!!!

A huge percent of welfare recipients have ZERO intentions of getting off their rears to get a job. They get the luxury of a PAID VACATION everyday thanks to WE the TAX-PAYERS who BUST our rears working our lives away while they get to watch TV, go shopping, and make babies all day long, everyday.

The SLACKERS of society need to GET TO WORK like the rest of us!! [color=gold]I as a taxpayer DO NOT wish for MY money to pay for SLACKERS to have a LIFETIME VACATION!!!!

In addition, I am certain that CRIME will go WAY down as well when folks are busy working instead of having all that free time on their hands...

Hooray for Romney on this one!

First off, you don't want a lot of these people working on public projects. They are not engineers.

Secondly, minimum wage doesn't nearly cover the cost of living for one person. And the cost of living is not equal across the country.

In my area, the average rent for a one bedroom apt is 1000, 1500 for a two bedroom. The cost of living for my county for a family to get by is 80k a year.

Daycare is insane, the average daycare is 325 a week.

So just for a family to pay rent and daycare, so for just rent and daycare for just one child, your looking at 2500 a month.

So just to cover basics, transportation, food, clothes, meds, rent and daycare, you have to make a minimum of 40,000 a year.

THAT is why people need welfare.

Actually, yeah, statistically they have as I posted in previous posts, and a lot are still working and pay into it every pay check. They aren't forcing anything from you, the government does. Stop blaming them, they were "forced" to pay in just as you were. But you don't want to hear that, you want to keep the illusion that you are somehow a better human being than them because they are poor.

You mean it didn't take long for the truth to come out? Actions have consequences. Don't ask me to subsidize yours.

That's the title of the article.

I pointed this out in the OP:

People on welfare assistance need to have the responsibility to work !!
(he said words to that effect)

Plus I quoted the article that quoted Romney.

Are we getting "technical" again ?
