Last week a memory came back to me which I'd forgotten all about for many years. I had spoke of this and thought about it as an adult but not for a long time. I decided to try a search on the internet as that's how we learn everyhing these days ! There was very little I could find which fitted exactly to my own experience apart from a thread on Mr ickes forum!! The problem is most people with similar experiences alude to OOBE's or dreams.

What actually happened to me between the ages of 6 and 9 is slightly different. I would stand at the top of the stairs and grab the rail and the opposing wall and lift myself up. I would then stay just off the ground and could make myself float down without using any support from the wall or rail. I also recall staying off the ground when I pushed myself up off the sofa and armchair ARM,one either side of me.
I remember telling my sister and dad about it but could never reproduce it around others. I know it was not a dream and occured quite a few times as a youngster. My dad remembers me boasting about it when I asked him last week.

What I would love to know is if anyone else recalls anything like this and why you think it could be possible(especially with the naievety of a child's mind etc). I know a lot of you will scoff and ridicule this, and I realise why but I've tried to give an honest account and am not claiming I can do this now.I can't,I've tried!

I remember the exact same thing, Floating down the stairs as a kid. But it was when I was dreaming. Lucid dreaming. I would leave my room and float down the stairs and there were always some sort of spirits that seem displeased that I was doing it, trying to scare me back into my body. I was going downstairs but they seemed to come from the attic.

I also recall these dreams where I would levitate. I just jumped up knowing that I could do it and did it and was like look what I can do.

I don´t have dreams like that anymore, unfortunately.

I had a dream where I levitated down a flight of stairs while chasing someone, but thats the only time.

Yeah you were lucid dreaming, I would jump up and concentrate on staying in the air, I remember being in my dream and thinking how cool I was and how everyone would think im a magician. But THEN, I woke up, and was like dam, but it was really cool, feels like it really happened.

Yes, definitely yes. Weird.. How quick all these forgotten memories have just come flooding back. I can remember going down entire flights of steps without ever touching a single one of them and softly landing at the bottom. Kinda floating, like a feather. Not dreams, not imagining... I remember vividly now being in school and other kids doing it with me.

Sitting here talking with my girlfriend, she remembers the same thing...

I do that every time I lucid dream. That's exactly the same way I do it. Focus on staying in the air. Did it last night too

Lol I prefer the worlds in my head to the world outside, most every morning I wish I could just keep dreaming and never wake up.

Anyone here claiming to have the ability to levitate as a child is either confusing childhood dreams with reality or just totally full of crap. You were not floating around as a child, sorry to burst your delusional bubbles

In dreams it's another story, a lot of us dream of floating/levitating even as adults

While I have never done so myself, I have dreams where I float or levitate. The thing about these dreams, is that they seem so real. It is their realism that convinces me that it may be possible while being awake.

Yes! I had this when I was little but assumed that it was dreaming rather than real as I remember watching Supergirl at the cinema and wishing I could fly too but couldnt.

I still have flying dreams quite frequently now, although I dont float down our house stairs anymore. The dreams are mostly outside either flying in the sky or leaping onto the roofs of buildings or leaping across buildings with multilevels like shopping malls and up or down steep flights of stairs in industrial/office type buildings.

My sister had this too and like me assumed they were dreams.

Will have to ask the kids again. When we chatted about it once before and they didnt seem to have them.

I would say it did really happen, only not in this dimension.

The last lucid dream I had was a year or two ago, I was flying through a really weird world on some sort of hoverboard with a bicycle handlebar. As I flew along I noticed a really lush, inviting oasis. At that moment I realized I was dreaming lucid.

Just as I wanted to to go down and land there I woke up. I was really dissapointed.

Alsmost as dissapointed as I was last week when I was dreaming I was making out with my high school crush that was never interested in me, because a friend called me really early and woke me up.

Man I was mad at at him.

I tried to go back to sleep and get back into it but that never works, does it. Bummer. She was so hot.

Jeah, I know, too much information.

Kids have crazy imaginations.

I had a dream last night that I was flying, and it seemed real.

Mind you, it was only a dream.

You probably had too many gummi bears that day.

I often had many dreams like this. I think the floating dream is especially common at young ages, I don't know why. I've talked about it with friends and they always had similar dreams. In mine I usually had to wave my arms rapidly, almost like flapping, or sometimes I would have to leap into the air and catch a precise angle in mid air to achieve proper floating ability.

I'm pretty sure you are just remembering a dream that at the time seemed so real you, as a child, thought that it was a memory.

Just for what it is worth, there is actually a couple of other threads here, talking about floating down stairs as a kid...Which grabs my attention actually...Seems quite a few remember such a thing.

You might be interesting in reading those thread for more information as well.

I was expecting a lot of people to say it happens/ed to them in dreams. I know this was a long time ago but I'm as certain as I can be that it happened whilst awake. Firstly it was always daytime, secondly the rooms where it occured were exactly as they should be with no dream like distortions. thirdly I remember running to my sister and telling her about it immediately after one of the episodes. I just think that there could possibly be abilities that are inherant in our brains and psyche but as we get older, due to the limits our elders impose upon us such as parents and teachers, and also what we watch, read and hear in popular culture have an effect that stops our brain from focusing on and learning these 'alternative' functions.

There are other realms and dimensions out there where the impossible is possible. I was convinced for years that I could actually do it. Like you said we lose that ability to connect as we get older.

I don´t know how to explain this, but with the help of some unmentionable substances I reconnected to these worlds now and then and realised that this is not the real world.

There are realms above this one.

That first thread has 5 five different banned members on the first 2 pages alone.

That´s remarkable.

There is a particuilar thing about dreaming of flying/levitating that I've not seen anyone mention. So I will.

Several times in my long life I've dreamed of flying. On more than one occasion I awoke while in the process and had a clear memory of making it happen with a particular altered brainwave state. I've told others how remarkable real it seemed.

The important factor was that I absolutely knew that if I could recreate that same weird stage of mind while awake than I could fly then too.

For other reason, I have done work with biofeedback and nuerofeedback devices over the years and am familiar with different brain states (frequencies), but never have I came close to replicating that particular state of mind. However, it believe it is possible.
