Unfortunatley, it's only for linking universities and such together.
Actually, you are using "10 GB/s" internet, on the main backbone. The problem with this tech is the "last mile" to someone's home. This stuff
would require major overhauls of phone lines with fiberoptic cable. Don't expect to see it for a while.
However, it is helping with research, especially with distributed computing, such as CERN's effort to interpret the LHC data... something like 10 PB
a day...
