Unfortunatley, it's only for linking universities and such together.
Actually, you are using "10 GB/s" internet, on the main backbone. The problem with this tech is the "last mile" to someone's home. This stuff would require major overhauls of phone lines with fiberoptic cable. Don't expect to see it for a while.

However, it is helping with research, especially with distributed computing, such as CERN's effort to interpret the LHC data... something like 10 PB a day...

y would 10g/s fry your computer?? i got 2.4-3.0m/s now and i know a guy close to a giga... he has no problems... lucky bastard

Well it would give me a lot more free time to think about how to spend the rest of my free time. 10 GB/sec is like 5 winamps playing at the same time. lol
