I think that we should have a set of sub-forums for people that want to buy or sell things. Any plans on this or have you guys considered it?

A Craig's List for conspiracy geeks?

(I'll trade you a Farday Cage (slightly used) for some MRE's.

Looking forward to the comments on this.

Good luck.

This is a good idea but the forum should only be available to members that have atleast 200 posts.
Otherwise any non trust worthy members can easily join the forum and scam people.

Agreed. A minimum post count would be a must. I am a member at a prop replica forum and they have a "junkyard" forum where you cant post if you have under 20 posts. No one liners ect.

lol, take for instance, I print t-shirts in my spare time. Alot of my designs would apply to the demographic that would visit this site. I am in no way looking for this site to be overrun with meaningless selling threads, maybe there is a way to weed out, or restrict it so only verified people are allowed to sell.

I would also be interested in some type of for sale or trade section in a Craigslist type format here. I think an eBay type platform would impose too much on the site owners.

I also agree with the members suggesting some type of requirement to post anything in the sale/trade section.

Being empathic, I can feel S.O.'s blood pressure go up at the mere thought of the logistics involved. The liability, the horror!

Personally, I think that there are already suitable places on the interwebs for such activity. Ebay is completely safe and secure. Craiglist is easy to use, however, more dependent on locality which would also be an issue for ATS if they were to implement said forum(s). There are many other places out there as well, less well known, and usually more specific.

A garage sale/flea market section, IMO, would definitely detract from the professionalism that ATS adheres to, but that's just me. When I want to engage in interesting conversation, I come here, and when I need to acquire a new null-grav generator for my vintage MARK VI spaceship, I search elsewhere.

However, I am about ready to sell the old gal, the parts are getting too expensive, so feel free to make an offer. The bidding starts at 3000 galactic credits, and I have a reserve, so serious inquires only. Item sold as-is, "slightly" worn condition.

yeah, pretty sure it wont happen. think about it this way: you agree with another member to purchase one of their goods. you send them the money. they send you nothing.

now what? S.O. sure isn't going to insure your purchase. are you going to take this other member to small claims court? what if they're in Azerbaijan? see what i'm sayin?

Actually, nothing in the T&Cs states that selling/buying items is a no-go...there would be NO solicitation. You either go to the forum and browse the items available, or you don't.

An interesting idea...

Before you can advertise anything, inlcuding a personal website, you must receive permission from ATS Owners. And remember, T&C apply to personal messages too.

TERMS & CONDITIONS OF USE
19) Advertising: You will not advertise or promote other discussion boards, chat systems, online communities or other websites on the Websites within posts, private messages, avatars and/or signatures without prior written permission from TAN. You will not choose a username that is the same as a website domain, subdomain, URL, organization, or business for which you are associated. Doing so will result in removal of your Post(s) and immediate termination of your account.

20a) Unauthorized Marketing: ATTENTION MARKETERS: You will not engage in efforts of viral or "stealth marketing" on these discussion boards without prior approval of TAN. If marketing activity for the promotion of any other commercial entity outside of these boards is discovered you agree that you are responsible for paying TAN $2.00 US for each "thread view" of the thread(s) in which your marketing messages are contained. Your acceptance of these Terms and Conditions of Membership for joining these discussion boards signifies your approval of these payment terms.

16f.) Private Messages: You will not use the private messaging system to send mass messages to multiple member accounts. All private messages are subject to the Terms and Conditions of Use and the Terms and Conditions of Membership. Violations will result in immediate account termination. You also agree that Private Messages are confidential. You will not post or publically display messages received from TAN, their agents, or any other members, in any way, without the written permission of the author. TAN, at their discretion, may review the content of your private messages when, and only when, complaints are received from the recipient(s) of your messages.
