Just watching the finacial bit on Sky News, they presenter said that shares had fallen for either BP or Shell due to "rumours"...and he reliterated that they were only rumours, that there had been another spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Anyone heard anything about this? Sky were certainly not keen on giving out any more details.

Thanks,

CX.

Gulf of Mexico Spill

I'm not sure if it is more than a minor problem with some heavy fines and expensive clean-up at the local level...but it's what is around at the moment.

The source of the one-mile by 10-mile sheen between Shell's Mars and Ursa projects is unknown and not linked to the facilities, but Shell is responding "proactively," a company statement said.

An on-call, after-hours spokesman for the Coast Guard said he had no information about the incident.

Thanks for that info.

Well as you can pretty much take any oil companys word with a pinch of salt, i wouldn't mind betting a "10 mile" sheen is something bigger. Remember the last spill figures that they were feeding us?

oil has been leaking for the past 2 years, they were never able to cap it off despite claiming too. if you've been to long beach, ms or other beaches roundabout the gulf, its obvious oil is STILL Washing up and along with oily dead animals and the live ones still have traces of oil on them so much later.

maybe there was a spurt in the seepage again? who really knows anymore as its so deep down under there.

what we do know is they have returned and are drilling in the shallow, out from the center of the leak. they figure they already made a mess so drilling around the leak to get the mess won't be a big deal, at least they get something out of the gulf after 2 yrs of waiting for media coverage to die down.

so, it will only get worse not better, in the next 2 yrs further.
