New report says Santorum is dropping out of the primary... Article to come shortly

NBC News has confirmed that Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum will suspend his campaign for the nomination. The announcement, expected shortly at an event in Gettysburg, Pa., follows a recent hospitalization for his 3-year-old daughter who suffers from the chromosomal defect Trisomy 18.

A senior source in the Mitt Romney camp confirms to NBC News that the front-runner received a call from Santorum today.

Santorum’s decision to suspend his campaign will effectively stifle the opposition to Romney from within the GOP; former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Rep. Ron Paul remain active candidates, though neither of them have a plausible path to winning the 1,144 delegates needed to secure the nomination.

This is a breaking news story. Please check back for updates.

Romney wish USA to become the country that can start a war any time without having to pay for it. He's another Bush; and G.W.Bush companions will now work with Romney too.
Even if no president now is as perfect as Lincoln, i vote for Ron Paul.

Rick Santorum was never meant to win.. he was used to give the news media someone to focus on... same with gingrich... just some fluff the media could hold onto while they promoted Romney and ignored Ron Paul....

What would it have been like if had been only Romney and Ron Paul.... The establishment feared that thought and this is why they would take the chance on losing the election rather than have someone like Ron Paul and his Ideas spread through the main stream media.

Guess the mainstream media will now declare this a 2 man race.

Ron Paul... forever...

Looks like Romney's the nominee (whoopee). Then again, it always was Romney - he had the money and the media. That's all you need.

What primaries or caucuses are left between now and the national convention?

With Santorum out, we will know for sure whether or not Paul has any shot whatsoever. Personally, I believe Romney has maxed out his support, I think all those other voters are bouncing from candidate to candidate, because they don't want to support Romney. I hope they land on Paul now.

It is a marathon event, and Paul has persevered this long, he has good fundraising capability, and he has been courting the delegates successfully. Maybe he is still in this thing?

Damn, now I won't get the chance to vote against him for the second time here in his home state of PA.

I do hope this helps throw more support towards Paul.

I suspect he may be dropping out partly because of his sick daughter? In anycase he didn't have a chance anyway. Once he came a far second from Romney in Illinois he lost any realistic chance of gaining the nomination or getting to the convention. Romney always had this in the bag.
