Title of thread

In an unprecedented move in the world of college competition, Texas Tech's entire team will transfer to Webster University in the chess hotbed of St. Louis, home to the World Chess Hall of Fame. The private university promised more funding for the team and access to a new, 6,000-square-foot learning center in the city.

Well this made me laugh and smile...

For a larger facility and more resources the national champs leave Texas Tech.

Well Texas is known more for football then chess

Maybe the other colleges should start looking into what is considered b-sports and hire the best teams...

There are very little rules in this area... As for the team itself.. it does seem dirty and no loyalty... As one poster put...a lot of information was left out...

scholarships for instance....

in conclusion,

saint louis got the coach and the national chess champs...

A lot of the details are missing

Haha I don't blame them...I live in Lubbock where Texas Tech is located and I doubt anyone here even knew we had a chess team

You truly deserve more stars for that then I can give you....

I figured most colleges had a team, I would have thought they would have trumpeted it a little louder....

National champs here... ( Texas Tech could use one lol)

more funding. they'll finally replace the bean they were using for a pawn.

they'll finally get a field trip to see deep blue at ibm, the supercomputer that cheated gary kasparov out of a win.

maybe now they can get rid of the vcr and buy a dvd player so they can see espn classic matches of chess in hi def.

lol...

you forgot tables to sit the boards on... ( I want to laugh more but you came to close to the truth)

I should have added this to the main post but I was curious if others beside me would love to see this trend continue with intellectual and less physical sports...

Although I would love a college level MMA competitions...
