After reading Donald Rumfield's comments on election in iraq on January 2005 that only parts of iraq that are secure will vote.
Does he not realise that every polling station will be a target for terrorists to attack. If we cannot provide security in large areas of iraq now how are we going to protect the iraqi civillians that will be voting?
With our troops?
Prepare more body bags Bush!

I posted my thoughts about this on another similar thread. This might be a dumb question, but would it be possible to set up the elections so that people could use absentee ballots? That way people could not be attacked at the polls and all people would have the opportunity to vote.

Here is the other active thread that is similar:

Good idea but with the amount of distrust in iraq at the moment I think only a ballot paper with blood on it will do.

The census changes daily in Iraq!!!

Will women be able to vote??

Will they have to vote in different booths than the men??

I can't see this going easy....

I think we will need some help to pull this one off!!!

I think the only solution to this problem is to involve the REAL international community, we need a multi national force made up from the arab world as well as all parts of the west.
I think that Bush has burnt his bridges by railroading this war through the UN and our best hope is Kerry.

Do you mean the coalition of the UNwilling? France has already stated that they would not send troops to Iraq even if John F'n Kerry was elected. If the Iraq elections do not go off as planned, the terrorist win. It is in the United States best interest to make sure these elections happen.

Bush will be reelected by a landslide, so hopefully he can partially privatize social security, get rid of the IRS and the UN.

Wishful thinking. How many countries are in the coalition of the unwilling?
More than the willing? If this was a world democracy we would not be at war right now FACT.
We are starting to see the split of the Bush Administration right now (free elections in iraq?)

How can you say we want bloodshed???

We don't want them to fail, we are just doubting they will be in Janurary, and also questioning how they will be done?

You can turn it anyway you like, we just want the Iraqi people picking who they want. A real democracy.

In case you forgot, Kerry just called the PM of Iraq a liar. I do not think that Kerry will be any more able to help this situation than the man in the moon!

I'm sure there is a way to make the election work. It may not be the ideal election and yes, there will probably be some snags, but I think that by the time elections roll around a solution will be found.

People view things from different angles depending on your emotions towards the war.
