I have a fair sum of money and want to use it wisely in regard to the soon to be financial collapse?

A little background: I was recently separated from the military for some minor injuries (and after realizing what our military/gov is really all about, thanks to the last year spent reading posts on this and other sites). I received about $30k upfront and have absolutely NO financial responsibilities/bills right now. I'm leaving September 1, 2012 to backpack/travel for 1 year. I'll be going to Australia, Cambodia, Vietnam/Laos, India, Malaysia, Nepal, Tanzania, Rwanda, Kenya, Ukraine, and Romania. I'll be returning to the United States August 31, 2013 with approx $100k. Again, I have no financial responsibilities and no ties to any place in particular. I have contacts that I could temporarily stay with in Alaska, Washington, North & South California, Arizona, Central Texas, Maryland, North Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. I also might not be opposed to moving to one of the countries I'm visiting on my trip. Some of my very close friends work in the dark parts of the military like CAG and my brother/cousin works as CWO3 in Counter-Intelligence. I'm worried that while I'm on my trip, hyperinflation will ensue and my $100k won't feed me for a week. I expect foreign troops on American soil. I don't trust the American dollar, the banks, stock market, and I know that silver & gold are just "rocks" in a SHTF scenario. Basically, I'd like advice on where you'd live, what you'd do with the money, how would you prepare?

Thank you in advance for your input. What a crazy time we live in!
Alex

p.s. mods, feel free to move if appropriate

Well Start making a bug out plan first

Do you have your Survival / Preppers Kit ready ?? Time to share mine

and start turning your home into a green house
not to depend of the big industries is the key to survive the financial collapse

What Life Would Be Like RIGHT NOW If We Werent Controlled Like ZOMBIES ? .. A True Heaven

But since you are moving to a lot of countries
maybe buy a little farm for your return
so you can start to be more selfsufficiant

I think you should give the money to me. I'll do something awesome with it!

Then when the SHTF, you can come stay at my place, and we'll battle the NWO or the Flesh Eating Zombies, or the Apocalyptic Roaches WIth Human Heads, or whatever it is that killed the rest of humanity, together.

A good friend is better than a bunch of money anyway.....and if you give me the cash, I promise to be just that!

I have the gear I'll be taking on my trip, all high rated top of the line: 75L hiking pack, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, camo 2-person tent, etc. I also have a small 120 mpg vehicle. I have many, many friends that are better trained and more prepared than myself. I don't have my own place... renting a room from a friend until I leave for my trip. What would you do with 6 months & $40k-$50k before leaving the country for a year? Where would you put the other $50k you earned while gone? I don't want the money direct deposited and then sitting in my savings account obviously. Where would you go when you got back? I have NO ties to anywhere... friends & family almost everywhere.

I expect financially, things will boom in Australia for a short time with the competition between America and China. However, the place may literally become a battleground or, at the very least, freedom will be severely restricted when this war finally starts.

South Carolina is low key, but it has a large military presence... the strategic value makes it a high place of interest to an enemy military. But I DO like coffee

The U.S. is dumping Marines into Australia... it's not just because there's more room there. The petrodollar is going to fall soon and as a result, so will the American economy (the petrodollar is the only reason the U.S. dollar has ANY value). The power countries of our time are making their final preparations for a war that will soon start. The United States, Europe, Israel and our few other "friends". As well as Iran, China, Pakistan, Venezuela, Korea, Russia, etc. It's inevitable at this point, and most members of ATS are fully aware of it. Australia will be a key player, if even only because of their location and real estate.

thats not much if you have to own where you relocate too... i supose if you're into trailer homes, a decent double in some of those states would be around 25k or a bit less? but already thats a quarter of ur savings right there.

in the mean time, are you getting interest?

the wisest thing, is let me hold it for you lol

Since you've got some money and you are going to all those places, the best 'prep' you could ever do is....

Every one of those stops, go to the poorest and most humanly horrible spots and spend some time with the locals and natives, eat like them sleep like them, work like them, pull your own weight, share stories of yourself and listen to theirs.
After a week or so, decide what lasting good, with a little bit, you could leave behind you, make that happen.
Chances are it will be a 'drip' compared to what you've got to spend and it will leave an ever lasting impression on those very real humans.
The benefits to yourself........un-weigh-able

See a need, fill a need!

X Good luck to you X

That's the entire purpose of the trip. I'll be staying with tribes in Africa, the poor in India, etc. It's a missionary trip, so the whole focus of the year that I'm gone will be to build relationships with these people.
