An Oregon University professor has controversially compared skepticism of global warming to racism.

Sociology and environmental studies professor Kari Norgaard wrote a paper criticising non-believers, suggesting that doubters have a ‘sickness’.

The professor, who holds a B.S. in biology and a master’s and PhD in sociology, argued that ‘cultural resistance’ to accepting humans as being responsible for climate change ‘must be recognised and treated’ as an aberrant sociological behaviour.

Warning....eco nazi at large. I'm not sure what's worse here. This persons personal belief or the fact that she is subjecting others to it via her course material. The sad part is that this radical, warped sense of thought will eventually prevail. Soon you may find yourself the social pariah and in urgent need of medical attention should you question global warming.
I don't dispute the fact that mankind is contributing to an unhealthy earth in the sense of air, water and land pollution. I do though find this type of thinking, especially from a professor, extremely unsettling.

Since the East Anglia University debacle, my thoughts about us being the sole or major cause of whatever is happening to our planet has gone down 100000%.

As for the masters and phd, they give those away to the people that sell their soul to tptb (in my very biased opinion)

That and someone was talking about the co2 level not being like this since 15 odd million years ago. Mainstream scientists keep saying we haven't been here that long, so ..... (oh and forget about the industrial revolution only being about 200 or so years old)

Is it just me, or is there something terribly wrong with her face and neck...?

From the way it looks, I would have to say that she's been playing the part as a authoritarian environmentalism for just a little too long....

The most highly educated and most intellectual People have always been responsible for every boondoggle in history.

Kari Norgaard is obviously in line for a Cabinet position in the Obama (mis)Administration.

Her views and credentials are impeccable.

She is Definitely an Agenda 21 backed scholar.

I hope all her supporters are happy with money it has cost to keep her "working"

as for all that [agenda 21,etc.] i cut my teeth on all that back in the 70s during my early teens
been a conspiracy theorist since 12.

why should people in the 3rd world enjoying the same standard of living as you be seen as a threat to you?

or are you fine with the US being 4.6% of the population consuming over 33% percent of the worlds resources?

"wreck the world, in order rule the ruins" only that's not what they really want: if they can't keep ruling the world, they intend to destroy it.

I am on the fence between humans causing global warming and the sun becoming bigger&hotter.

One thing I am sure about is that we are causing irreparable damage to the eco-system with lax and unenforceable laws targeting big companies that pollute irresponsibly. Hire the cheapest labor you can find in third world countries and dump all the raw sewage you can anywhere you want because it is not the companies fault nor the governments fault.

Obviously capitalism does not work, but how long will it take for everyone to figure this out??

The west earned its right to enjoy a higher standard of living because of the huge influx of capital and tech know how. Now these same companies that have over-developed in the west are flocking to asia to exploit the locals with their low standard of living.

I would have no problem with globalisation if it was done in a responsible and ethical manner, BUT we all know money talks and bs walks. I would go further and say it is a demonic anti-life conspiracy that if you can't have your way then destroy everything...much like a spoiled psychotic child.

Why don't asian companies enjoy some kind of market share in the west? Oh yeah they call them "knock-offs"! Buy knock-off airplane parts and the airplane crashes to the ground and everyone gets killed, buy cheap medicine and you will fall sick and die, buy cheap clothes and they last only 1 year.

You MUST ONLY buy american or european merchandise MADE IN ASIA!

I support the AGW idea, but have always considered the opposing viewpoint legitimate, as it is such a complex issue with many variables we don't have good data on like industrial outputs in china and india so the idea of comparing it to racism or that there is something "wrong" with people who disagree with AGW is just plain nutty

I would like to highlight just how phenomenally inaccurate and ignorant that statement is. Human 'civilization' is very much inextricably connected to a healthy, functioning climate. As the earth atmosphere continues to heat up, we are already seeing changes to the ecology of the planet which will very much not be a 'good thing' for civilization in the long or short run. Make whatever argument you want to make about the CAUSE of the climate heating up, there is no dispute that it IS heating up and that is and will continue to have DIRE consequences on the ecosystems we all need to survive.

Oh my god look at this woman, she has no place publicly calling other people sick. In fact I'd say it's high time she scooted off to her GP and the sooner the better.

It's not wrong to say though that most folks in developed nations refuse to see the damage that irresponsible consumerism and manufacturing are doing to the planet. I believe it's possible to maintain our standard of living without undue damage.
I don't want to throw out the baby with the bathwater as some give environmentalism a bad name. We DO need to maintain natural areas and reclaim land we've trashed through poor agricultural practices. We need to protect key species and ecosystems but we do not need hypocritical authoritarians insulting us to do so.

I suspect she was bullied as a child and this is her way of venting at the world. A lack of acceptance can push people in bad directions but this is purely speculative on my part.

Regardless of what your opinion is of this person why NOT recycle?
It does help alleviate the amount of oil and tree pulp we consume and I should think that's a good thing.

I protest in my own way and I don't use much plastic at home. Also, it's only creating wealth for others by my own toil.
