Slave Labor: Past and Present

The only difference between the slave labor of the past and the slave labor of the present is that in the past individuals were forced to do work out of FEAR that they would be harmed physically and in the present individuals work out of FEAR that their lifestyle will be harmed.

Each type profits a select few it's just that in the present it is sugarcoated.

Thoughts on this are appreciated both positive and negative.

It is true. Though farm animals might actually be a better metaphor. Consider the free range chicken. His next step is not towards freedom, but towards the dinner table. They give us "freedoms" in order that we might produce more while reducing their outlay for our upkeep. Remember, the farmer provides "free health care" for his stock.

China, India and Vietnam! But.... They have to start somewhere, although the labour laws are unregulated, families are growing richer. Labour laws have caused many Western communities to crumble because of the pay per hour demands. So much of what we used is made by cheap labour, but, we must realise that Norma Rea has done us in as well.

Capitalism IS slave labor. Wage earners MUST work or they will die. True freedom comes through socialism. Workers of the world unite, and all that jazz...

Does not make sense. In the past when we had slaves in America the working class of free men worked so they got food and shelter just like they do today. They are two completely different systems one being slavery and the other not being slavery.

in order for humans to live, and reproduce simply and basically much work must be done.

It's called supply/demand/profit. You trade your time for money or you don't survive. It's that simple. Guess what? In that time you spend it is also factored in that you profit a select few... Why do you think the occupy movement is going on? People are fed up with the system.

By your logic i guess i could use my free will and up and quit the system. I mean if I'm not a slave I should be able to quit something. Maybe i could go find some land somewhere and plant some seeds to grow food so i could survive? Oh wait all land is accounted for in the US so i guess that is out of the question...

It's a form of slavery whether you like it or not. It's sugarcoated.

You are correct as long as every part of the system is "good". Once you identify a part of the working system that is not good then you must change it.

People are fed up with the system.

"the system" works in nature too. If a lion does not hunt he does not eat and starves to death. If you do nothing you get nothing, that is how "the system" works.

By your logic i guess i could use my free will and up and quit the system. I mean if I'm not a slave I should be able to quit something. Maybe i could go find some land somewhere and plant some seeds to grow food so i could survive? Oh wait all land is accounted for in the US so i guess that is out of the question...

You can quit and go where ever you wish. But you can't honestly think that someone should give up some land they own so that you can squat on it do you? There are plenty of places with little to no law that you would be free to go to. But you don't because you NEED "the system".

2. OWS knows the system is flawed. That's why they are protesting.

3. Please list places in the USA where I can start a farm for free so I don't have to be dependent on the system. If you can't then i guess I have no choice but to be dependent. Thus, if I have no choice then I am forced to be dependent on the system for survival. If I am forced to be dependent on the system that gives massive profits for 1% then that is a form of slavery.

We obviously aren't even close to being on the same page and absolutely nothing positive will come from going back and forth with you so this is my last reply. Thank you for your time.

1. I never said people shouldn't work. Though I'm sure one day most everything will be automated so work will be minimal.

2. People do get something for nothing look at unemployment and welfare, they are bandaids for the flawed system

3. OWS.. They say something different because each one of them has different problems. It's called big picture... And the big picture is the system.

4. The system is supply/demand/profit not supply/demand/benefit humanity and the world. Look at the dependency on oil. Look at people that get laid off because of lack of demand. Jobs get outsourced to other countries for the sake of profit.

5. I've given away at least 10% of the money i have saved up in the last few months for causes other than personal gain and i don't expect that money back. Helping out family, a homeless veteran, and tornado victims.

Again, thank you. Now i have to go and try to make strides towards what i believe in.

You cannot buy land in US and grow your own food? This is nonsense.
And if you state that you should not buy it - then you will have to fight for it. Because once it is decided that there will bo no owner and you can get whatever you want, all the best land will be controlled by people with the biggest fists.
