I have been a long time observer and fan of this site and I must say find it to be a fantastic blend of utterly science fiction inspired sensationalist nonsense contrasted with mind blowing food for thought.

I thought I would say my hello accompanied with a couple of my own thoughts and ideas on some of the content here which spurred me into membership.

Firstly Id like to share with you my frustration at feeling like I'm constantly on the precipice of understanding something momentous. The reason for this is that every time I read a great post I then start thinking about how it ties in with other theories and start making the links. The problem is that I'm only human and forget things, things that may just build that final piece of bridge that allow everything to make sense.

With that being said, I propose some sort of detective style super thought web where the links between theories are shown and stored through delightful graphical representations. This would make it clearer to see how each theory and perspective can strengthen or falsify another.

Secondly I'd just like to throw a thought of my own out there regarding this simulation theory which has had me so intrigued. A recent member post regarding a simulated computer built within the game mine craft got me thinking. The concept was: could the simulated computer created within mine-craft hack into the non-simulated computer running the mine-craft software. I had a few thoughts from this, not answering the question but just a few thoughts on the topic.

The simulated computer would always be less capable than the real computer because each piece of information the simulated computer has would be also stored and exist on the real computer. if this is true then a simulated universe would always have less information than a true universe and certainly this would be true for a simulated universe within simulated universe and so on. this seems to discredit the simulation theory somewhat but there's plenty more to explore in that area before my conclusions are drawn.

Well that is all for now ATS until I make 20 comments. Addios

Hi and welcome.
I also found that simulation theory rather interesting. I saw a (old?) video of 2 learned people discussing the pro's and con's of the argument on a stage somewhere and the pro guy came off as better, wittier and more well-reasoned but also with a large dose of humour which is something that works well on me. I hate people that take them selves too seriously on "theoretical" subjects. Whether it really is true I have no idea but it is definitely an interesting one.

Anyway, welcome to ATS and I look forward to reading your thread when you get 20 posts or feel inclined to go further into it.

I love the idea of your thought web - I'm also still getting to my twenty posts, so I'll add my two cents: How about a thought structure visualization to take the form of a tree - A tree of knowledge - Although it would probably become as complex as the structure of the brain. It would be a 3D navigational structure that would contain links to all knowledge. A classification system for knowledge already exist in our libraries - the Dewey system - It's just a matter of producing the 3D environment.

Anyway, welcome - we can work together on such an idea on a future thread.

Congratulations (long time observer and fan), you've joined the world's largest and civil alternative topics discussion community! We understand that with rules, policies and just the shear size of the website, it can be quite overwhelming. So we've created a presentation tour with just you in mind.

Welcome Stattius

AboveTopSecret is much like a theme park with many, many rides, with that said...
Here's a few thoughts before getting onto any one of the 1000's of topical rides at Above Top Secret, also known as ATS, the world's largest Civil & Unique Discussion Community.

*** Please be at least this tall to get on any of the rides, (Johnny stretches his arm outward), and act like an 'civil' adult. This will save you a lot of future stress, frustration and possible action by one of your friendly neighborhood Mods!

*** Please remember that some members are very passionate and vocal depending on what ride your on. Before getting on a ride, you should be mentally fit, emotionally stable and have a strong stomach for theories, conjecture, research and evidence presented that may be contrary to your own.

*** Please be "open-minded" enough to understand that sometimes the ride isn't always what you might think or expect. At times, you may learn something new and 'out-of-the-box' before you get off the ride, this is a natural and normal phenomena.

*** Please note that at times the ride gets overly-heated and "it's strongly suggested" to get off the ride to regroup one's thoughts before continuing. This will also help guarantee that the ride will move forward without getting derailed or explode into a fiery trashbin.

*** Please have fun! Be aware if you act in an uncivil-like manner, use profanity, troll, intentionally spread a hoax and/or get verbally abusive, you will be removed off the ride by a Moderator. This is for your safety, & also for those both young and old on the ride with you.

So buckle up, keep your arms within the ride's comfort zone, have fun and "Deny Ignorance"...!
