You see, that is what I don't understand here. I'm not familiar with Indonesia's military or it's power..but I sure know China's by heart. 2,500 U.S. Marines are fearsome...to most nations. That number is little more than comic relief to China. What are they supposed to do? China would have to view them as a serious tool to be used in some way for the statement to carry any meaning. 20,000 would make a statement. 2,500 is smaller than some overseas temporary deployments the U.S. makes strictly for training aid. ??

Maybe it is all about Indonesia? Again..I don't know much about them. Not my corner of the world. Would 2,500 Marines stationed in a different nation so physically distant make for serious hand wringing in Jakarta? It just doesn't make sense..... The Air Force can airlift several times that many in very short order if needs be..and everyone on Earth knows it. What is the point of actually stationing them there if not to be ready for immediate deployment in a way someone has already given some thought to?

Yes..your right..now they just come take and do what they want and frak everyone else...its called empire.

In any case Aussies, I would not fear the Marines as I don't think they would be hostile towards Australians.

Not twice.

I don't agree with them being there either, but if it was a military decision and not a decision by Obama, rest assured that they are only there as a counter to communist China whom I've heard has also been occupying the outback.

You are f*cking kidding me? China occupying our outback?
You are believing LIES!
The only one occupying out there is the US - see pine gap and Exmouth Radar etc etc etal
86 points of call for the US already here...

China made a push on lour farming land about ayear ago but were stopped from the major buy up. Its US companies like monsanto that now control our 'food safety programs' here and that is just disaster...both that they do and that our politicans are that dumb to permit it.

Anyhow I am not there so if any of this information is not accurate feel free to set me straight.

Oh and OP no place is safe.

I think you need to go do some reading on exactly who is what. Its not up for me to set you straight except to say China has not invaded us..and there is no need for US troops here and this will do nothing for AUSTRALIAN interets as they are serving international gangstas not us.

Through hard work..building...calm reason and real effort..we were a hell of a lot safer than many places.

They are going to one of the more remote areas of Australia, we will never see or have anything to do with them in most cases. Don't see the problem, its all bluff and banter between America, Russia and China they all depend on each other for there economies to stay healthy, its just so the war machine can sell more product, that is all!

No it's not colonization, it it was we would be giving you arms and helping build schools. In which case you would be lucky

It is now about a central world government and it doesn't have as much to do with colonization as it does having a strategic advantage, but our president is a socialist, thats a communist with a smile and our military is in a major disagreement with our president so like I said it's complicated.

Our population was disarmed many years ago...

This is about US having access to the South China Sea for the first time since Vietnam..its not just us who should be worried, if they start another Vietnam here its you who will be drafted to come here en mass and be deployed from our shores to go kill kong again.

I am almost glad my brother died in the last Vietnam war...he'd never have coped with this news.

This isn't about Indonesia, in fact nothing to do with it. This is purely in American interests.
If this were in Australias interest why would we be sending billions of dollars of food, aid, doctors, etc to Indonesia every year?

Were not an empire, but I agree the Federal Government is out of control and acting like one.

Australia may very well be the next free world.

Point is don't fear the marines. I have more faith in them than the president.

"Multiculturism"
"AID"
"The World Bank"
and many others are all modern day "colonization", do you think the war in Libya was about humanitarian reasons or for establishing western influence over its resources?
Even traditional forms of colonization are still being carried out, the native Tibetans are being ethnically genocided and their populations being replaced by Chinese settlers. Even in PNG, the Chinese have began sending in colonists to take over the commonwealth country.

The US is acting as an empire. Sorry but the facts support it..167 countries ' occupied' by US military bases and counting. One has to ask " why" and who gives you the right? You have no right to declare yourself global policeman...no right to set up shop wherever you feel like it. By actions you claim the right but it isnt REAL...its false reality bs.

I dont buy the 'dont worry they're marines' bs..sorry..they are armed men on our soil from a foreign country who are serving well known mobsters and corporate cartels and they have NO right that we the Australian people directly have given them to be here. Our leaders may have sold out..but we havent. Apart from the cash strapped brothels or barmaids at Dickies in Darwin, I doubt anyone of reasoned mind or any education is 'welcoming' this event.

IMO, If marines these days truly HAD any honour and courage they would have refused deployment to Iraq..Afghanistan and now Australia and focused their 'honour' on doing their real job of defending their own land and consitutution from internal parasites eating them away and would be busy seeing those mobsters to jail so none of this would even need to be written at all.

Thank you. We certainly agree in this having no logical basis for being about China or Indonesia....unless I'm still missing something huge about Indonesia?

Anyway... my reply was to a post whose first two lines made the case that this was about nothing BUT China and Indo..which, for reasons we've both said now..makes no sense. Oh well... Crazy world. Why do I keep expecting things to make sense? lol

??? Oh really???

America has bases all over Australia.

America has expressed it wants the Cocos Islands (Australian Territory).

American CIA officials are responsible for the 1975 Australian Constitutional Crisis, the death of Harold Holt, and most recently the 2010 Coup of Prime Minister Rudd.

America is now sending over their workers to take the jobs of Aussies.

The list just goes on....

I am just trying to tell you that there is no reason to fear the marines. I do not believe they would be hostile. Thats just my honest opinion.

Of course if you acted hostile towards them they might. But other than that, I don't think theres anything you should be worried about, just because they are armed.

Show one or two of them a good time, you might be surprised. They are not as bad as the rest of the world makes them out to be. You might actually like them and not know it yet.

China works via Indonesia as a trading partner to Australia..we have had good trade relationship until now as this deployment has not been received well by either Indonesia or China. In this sense, it *is* about intimidating China and ensuring they know the big ole US is in the area...and more importatnly it is about the US having direct access to the South China Sea for greater military strategic placement for FUTURE wars....

Basically..they aim to f*ck up our relationships with our neighbours so you can all feel more cosy.

Kudos.

The US Government has been infiltrated but the world bank and all other things you mentioned are not American and neither are some of the military bases or whatever. It's a complicated situation, the marines however are american. Does this make sense?

They are here..they are not leaving. that IS enough to fear them.

They are working for the elite not even Us interests..let alone Australian.

In a nation of disarmed people, they are carrying weapons.

They are attached to the single most diseased, agressive and disgusting military and political power on earth.

They are here against the will of the people who chose NOT to go to war several times...and now may not be given a choice.

If your so keen to show them a good time..why dont you come down show them one..spread your thighs for a few while your at it..we are not US whores thanks...dont expect us to be.

IF they are American then they have a choice NOT to deploy. They have CHOSEN to deploy which only makes matters worse.

200 Marines there right now? Are you sure? I'm willing to bet there's been WAAAAY more than 200 there for a looooong time. They are just announcing it to rattle political chains somewhere.

Also, 200 Marines compared to how many American tourists each year? Can't argue that the marines "aren't gonna spend any money here". They're tourists on duty... they are gonna be buying all the crap you can throw at them to send home to the family to "ooh!" and "aah!" at. Treat them like tourists, not terrorists. Take their money.
