Truely awesome picture.

It looks like a terrible infection on the host cell. I do believe whatever organism that sphere belongs to should immediately send out some antibodies and eradicate the infectious species.

Actually the more i look at this pic, the more it looks menacing to me.

Like a huge mothership just hovering there, looking down on the ants far below, waiting to strike, and annihilate earth.

Or, they are just looking at the light show.

But, its only the ISS, so don;t panic!

Imagine..... For a lucky few, that is the view out their "office" window for long periods at a stretch. Oh what I wouldn't give to have gone a path in life that led there in the end. How fortunate a place to spend time.

Someday...we really have to get people up in orbit as a regular tourist/commercial thing. Until then, I can't personally get enough of videos and photos like this. It's so incredible and we're just a little dot in the darkness.

Oh ja, indeed mate.

And if we can speculate for a minute, or let our minds go outside the box, it can be said, that we are indeed nothing more than a huge motherboard, full of circuits, full of chips, that is operating on this board, each doing their own action, to contribute to the whole.

Or, you might argue, that we are indeed the virus in the system, destroying it slowly. Same with another poster that likened it to a human cell, same anology could be applied.

Awesome post.
I watched the video to this pic on the NASA channel a few months back.
Beautiful in my opinion.

It looks like the Borg got hold of the planet.
Thanks for the picture.

That just became my new desktop background!

Amazing picture!

It makes the atmosphere look so small and fragile with all of the artificial lights and then the northern lights!

Kind of a powerful statement in a real picture.

Love it!
