Awesome - didn't take long for the liberal anti-gun lobby to come out and exploit the crisis...

Still, Schumer wrote in a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder on Sunday that the laws themselves should be investigated.

These laws seem to be encouraging vigilantism by allowing individuals to use deadly force as a first resort," Schumer, D-N.Y., said in a statement.

Schumer asked Holder's department to probe whether the laws "are creating more violence than they are preventing," and whether potential murders are "going unprosecuted" because of them.

He estimated that 23 states have some form of this law.

Hey Chuck I have an idea let’s leave it up to the individual States what is appropriate for their citizens huh? How's strict gun control working for you in NY? Not so hot I hear...

My State has this law - I say let the liberals in NY hug each other and sing khumbahya. Leave Missouri alone please we are fine with keeping some semblance of our rights to protect ourselves.

As for Holder - he needs to worry about gun control in the ATF before he starts picking apart the States laws.

Schumer is a butthole and always has been on every issue... Tell him and his armed secret service agents then to run if confronted with a threat, right... Just because this law exists does not mean you can go around killing people. This law has existed for years in around 2 dozen states and we have had no problems except for a few isolated incidents, which one of (we all know which one) is still somewhat sketchy. I am sorry but if someone is trying to kill me or do me great bodily harm and I am armed, I am not gona try and run and get shot/stabbed in the back.

But yes, I agree..

Schumer has always been extremely anti-gun since I can remember.. Whenever there is a gun issue, you can be sure his name is at the top of the bleeding heart outcry. Which to me I think he just doesn't want us to have them (like all of them). Any idiot can use the net to find the facts, even him.

Indeed it does. But as the saying goes.. Never let a good crisis go to waste. This is an opportunity for them to play the gungrab card.

This law is basically a hunting license - no witness - no problem - your word against the dead guys.

You guys really want to live in that world - really?

I want to live in a world where I'm allowed to defend myself. I'm sick and tired of this attitude that I must not be allowed to defend myself because the other guy might get hurt. If somebody is out to hurt me or my family I ahve every right to defense. I'm sick and tired of these defend the criminal laws.

Indeed - it just takes the guess work out of the snap decisions one has to make in a time if crisis. One shouldn't have to go through a checklist at 0300 with an intruder before you have the right to shoot to avoid a civil suit. All these laws do is take the balance of power from the criminals to the law abiding citizens.

Yeah, the Zimmerman guy made his own bed - he created the conflict by following the kid - this is not even a case for "stand your ground" but here it is being messed with all the same.

Being threatened even by Senators from States who don't even have the law - who is this asshat to think the people of the 23 or so States that have the law care for his opinion. You can rest assured in my State he'd never been elected to begin with - I certainly don't care what his opinion is on the matter.

If I want to live in a liberal utopia with high crime, taxes and low civil liberties I'll move to NY - thanks Chuck, now get back to regulating the salt content in soups for the homeless. That seems to be a hotbed issue for NY.

You want to live in world where you are not allowed to defend yourself and must either flee, or die? Lets face it the world is not a nice place, and the only person that is going to look after you is you.

ETA: Schumer is a tool, so he would run away if confronted by someone? Highly doubtful, this is just like the story a little while back about the anti gun advocate shooting an intruder in his home. It will always be do as I say not as I do with this crowd.

We already do.

The pair of killers allegedly broke into the Petit family home to burglarize it like they had done to dozens of other homes and businesses in the past. Finding the Petit family home, (at 3 a.m. where did they expect the family members to be?), they took them captive and later forced Mrs. Petit to go to her bank to make a $15,000 cash withdrawal. She did it probably in the vain hope of paying off her assailants to save her family.

A suspicious bank employee notified police who rushed to the Petit home, only to find Mrs. Petit strangled and dead on the ground floor of her home. The charred body of Hayley was at the top of the home's staircase, and Michaela was strapped to her bed, dead. Dr. Petit, who had been beaten on his head with a baseball bat and tied up in the basement, was eventually able to free himself from his bindings to hop up the basement stairs to escape the blaze that had been set by his assailants.Source

Home Invasion Facts:

According to a United States Department of Justice report:
38% of assaults & 60% of rapes occur during home invasions.
1 of every 5 homes will experience a break-in or home invasion. That's over 2,000,000 homes!
According to Statistics Canada, there has been an average of 289,200 home invasions annually over the last 5 years.
Statistically, there are over 8,000 home invasions per day in North America
According to Statistics U.S.A., there was an average of 3,600,000 home invasions annually between 1994 and 2000.
:

I don't care if they had a bad childhood or are down on their luck. If they want to rape and kill, they will die. I don't care about the property they can have it. If they try to kill or rape my family, they will get a fatal injection of lead. Get armed and protect your life.

It is not - you clearly don't know the law. We have a version here in MO that is pretty clear...

Someone comes after you and you feel your life is in danger, you can protect it - and that of any others nearby as well.

Further it protects the sleepy homeowner, driver and citizen from having to make a bunch of snap decisions while scared and out of it that could cost them their freedom and livelihoods. Then and more importantly it protects them from frivolous litigation from the families of the deceased after the media starts showing 5 year old photos and talking about what a great person the perpetrator was.

Yes I want to live under those laws - I chose to live where I do partially because of the gun/self defense laws.

The FL case that Chuck is concerned about has zero to do with the stand your ground clause as will I am sure come out eventually. The wana-be citizen watch guy was in the wrong...

Isn't that exactly what Trayvon Martin did? He stood his ground, he said, "I'm not going to let you scare me!" He's dead for it now. The man who killed him is free. The world you describe is where we're at right now.

Oh yeah political gain huh?

So being against people being shot for simply wearing a hoodie and walking down a street is political gain now?

The Stand your Ground will prove Mr. Zimmerman was guilty of manslaughter and should be sent to prison for his crime.

Treyvon Martin had a right to stand his ground when confronted by this freak, I know his type and have chased them off my property in the past, they think that they have a right to snoop around and "run" things.

For all the kid knew Zimmerman was just some fat drunk homosexual who was going to rape him, like John Wayne Gacy did with his Cop act that resulted in dozens of dead young men.

It is now being reported by "anonymous witnesses" that Trayvon basically beat this guy up and I kind of hope its true because at least he kicked this scumbags a$$ before he was killed, it tells me that he had spirit and was no punk.

I dont care what Trayvon did once this guy cornered him, this young Man had a right to stand his ground and fight for his life from this nutjob.

Interestingly enough, I am a "Crimewatch Captain" via the Ft Lauderdale Police Dept, I carry a gun and sleep with Lola under the pillow, about six weeks ago I saw a strange "Black" male walking through the back yards of my neighbors houses, since he had no uniform and really had no reason to be there so I called it in, the Cops came and although they didn't find him, nobody got robbed and nobody got shot.

That's good enough for me.

How do we know the death was unjustified? Putting Schumer aside for a moment,

No one here knows what exactly transpired between Zimmerman and Martin. Using speculation as fact is preemptive.

Now Schumer wants a review of the laws and whether or not they are producing unnecessary fatalities, fair enough. I'd be interested in seeing the results of such a probe as well... While we're at it, lets see those lowered assault/robbery statistics in states where open/conceal carry is legal.
