LED-Based Lighting Treatment for Wound Healing
INNOVATION
Light-emitting diodes (LEDs), developed for NASA Space Shuttle plant growth experiments, are being used in the treatment of wounds.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
The Phase I effort achieved its objective of ascertaining and demonstrating the efficacy of light therapy using LEDs, alone and in conjunction with hyperbaric oxygen, in the treatment of wounds.
Phase II results in speeding the early phase of wound closure were particularly successful.
Doctors at the Medical College of Wisconsin have examined how LEDs can help heal oral mucositis (severe oral sores caused by chemotherapy and radiation), diabetic skin ulcers, and serious burns. (Preventing oral mucositis improves the patients' ability to eat and drink and may also reduce the risk of infections in patients with compromised immune systems.)
COMMERCIALIZATION
NASA LED arrays have already flown on Space Shuttle missions for studies of plant growth.
Improved wound healing may have multiple applications, including civilian medical care, military situations, and long-term space flight.
Phase II objectives have included the development of a tri-photon light source and human clinical trials at the Medical College of Wisconsin.
The FDA pre-approved the procedure.
Verification of operation in ISS environment to be determined.
GOVERNMENT/SCIENCE APPLICATIONS
Wounds are slow to heal in a microgravity environment. Muscle and bone atrophy are well documented in astronauts, and various minor injuries have been reported not to heal until landing on Earth.
LED therapy could keep what would be termed as minor wounds on Earth from becoming mission-catastrophic in space.
While under contract to NASA, QDI's LEDs have been utilized as part of a cancer treatment.
In Special Operations, LED arrays could be used for improved wound healing and in the treatment of problem wounds, as well as speeding deconditioned personnel to full-duty performance.
LED usage has been approved by the Naval Special Warfare Command.
NASA Light Technology Successfully Reduces Cancer Patients Painful Side Effects from Radiation and Chemotherapy
Ron Ignatius, founder and chairman of Quantum Devices Inc., of Barneveld Wis., developed the WARP 75 light delivery system for use in the trial. The device uses the HEALS technology to provide intense light energy: the equivalent light energy of 12 suns from each of the 288 LED chips -- each the size of a grain of salt.
It is one of many devices using HEALS technology, developed in collaboration with NASA. In the early 1990s, Quantum teamed with the Wisconsin Center for Space Automation and Robotics – a NASA-sponsored research center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison – to develop Astroculture 3, a plant growth chamber using near infrared HEALS technology for plant growth experiments on shuttle missions.
Over the years, Quantum has worked to develop HEALS technology for use in medical fields, specifically with pediatric brain tumors and hard-to-heal wounds such as diabetic skin ulcers, serious burns and oral mucositis. "With the help of NASA's Innovative Partnerships Program, Quantum Devices and its medical partners have been able to take a space technology and adapt it for an entirely different application to significantly help people here on Earth," said Glenn Ignatius, president of Quantum Devices. "This collaboration between NASA and commercial companies has spurred innovation that is touching millions of lives on Earth -- for the better."

This could be one of those projects that are now classified for reasons of "national security".
Which you can translate into "we need to shield this from general view because if this were implemented in medicine on a large scale pharma would generate much less income which hurts that sector, free-market economy and the control of the general population".

There were clinical trials that looked promising.
I still see research by the same cast of characters, but it's something I haven't seen pursued as seriously as you'd have expected.edit on 25-3-2012 by Bedlam because: (no reason given)

A human body operated on 7 main colors, 7 main chakras. Shine a certain color of light on a certain part of the body and the person will feel lighter or better. Plants are the same way but they only take in one color, green.
Find out the chakra colors, shine them on yourself and you'll feel the results.

LEDs created with MCC Violet Chip technology emit a spectrum which more closely resembles sunshine. So, the quality of light is very high and exhibits true color. The Color Rendering Index (CRI) is over 90, and the R9 (red) component over 85, so red colors look realistic and vibrant.

I have a problem with cysts on my knees and wrists. I have been using a simple laser level from walmart to speed the healing of these. The one on my left wrist healed up and disappeared after one week of use- 3-4 times a day of 3-4 min time rubbing it across the area. I had had this weak spot in the synovial membrane for years... it has never come back. My right knee has the same problem but it does tend to reoccur every year or two, I just use the laser 3-4 min 3-4 times a day for about a week and it heals. I normally rub it through my pants leg while I am driving. I have never had any ill effects from it and recommend it to all my friends and family. most of them wouldn't dream of trying it but the ones that do tell me it works to heals various conditions including spider bites. Try it..... the laser cost me 16.99.
