This just shows that 62% of people are clueless about the economy of gas.

And the gas price dropped in the last half of 2008 because the economy tanked...no demand = low prices.

when was the last time the US built a refinery?
the 70s?

there is enough oil, on shore in the bakun field and on the north slope to drop the price of oil to nothing and fuel a real US economy with out off shore drilling..
but it isn't going to happen

I suspect this election, as they all seem to be lately, will get decided by VOTE FRAUD

They may think it will lower prices but it won't. The US nearly doubled its oil drilling operations under Obama, and you can see that didn't keep prices low. The simple fact is that the US has only a small part of the world's petrol resources. Even if we kept all domestically-produced oil for US consumption, we'd still have to import a very substantial portion of the petrol we use; the result would be that world pricing, not US-only pricing, would prevail (since when have domestic oil companies been charitable institutions? For that matter, how many domestic oil companies are completely domestic and without any foreign ownership or operations?).

We do need to drill. Why Obama didnt take the Canadian oil deal,speaks volumes,on how he has pandered to the "green" initiative,and all its dirty money.

We have been down this road before.

July 2008, gas was $4.10 a gallon.

President George W. Bush lifted the moratorium on offshore drilling.

The speculators swung into action and forced the price of gas down to $1.61

in just a few months.

They found a way around that.

Instead of building a new refinery just enlarge the existing refineries.

Some would argue our need for oil is NOT worth the possibility of that happening again. After all oil has monetary value whereas life has Intrinsic value. It is priceless.

Here's an idea. Why don't we evolve past needing petrol mud to power our lives? The whole idea is archaic. Sure some oil tycoons will have to suffer their fortunes to move past this old world fuel source, but personally, I couldn't care less. They've had decades to adopt and push new tech, but they keep beating that same old dead horse with "There's no better fuel source."

Wrong. There's no better source because these "tycoons" ostracize and/or kill anyone that comes up with something better.

again...another "oil" thread where no one holds the megacorporations responsible for our high gas prices. tens of billions of dollars in record profits each year, catastrophic spills, hundreds of millions of dollars spent worldwide in lobbying and outright bribery....and then what....THE LIBERALS ARE TO BLAME!!!

Oil is an awful source of fuel. It is not clean burning, is expensive to refine into something useable, and hurts our environment everywhere it goes. If 62% of likely voters (because thats who Rassmussen Reports actually polls, not ALL Americans) agree with this than they clearly are in need of some real education on the issue of climate change and the effect ripping natural resources out of the ground and burning them has on this planet.
