Hey there, I live here in Las Vegas as well (Summerlin area) and want to mention I was outside about half an hour ago and I heard a series of rapid booms, only lasted a second or so but there were a good 3 - 5 booms in sequence with slightly differing intensities between them.

Could not tell the direction it was originating from, and have never heard anything like it before. It was not faint, but loud enough to cause some slight rattling at the house. Thought maybe it could be some demolition from the strip, or a number of aircraft in formation somewhere up high creating sonic booms but can't speculate really.

Strange thing too is, I have been "feeling/hearing" this for a week or so now.
I've even looked at the Latest EQ page on several occasions to see if the "BIG One" had hit Cali, or if there were smaller EQs nearby. Nothing on the USGS site reflect these rattling "booms"
I live on 160 acre ranch 70 miles from the nearest small town (Ely) No highways, airports, construction near here.
Heck, the nearest signal light is 70 miles away.

Today, after reading the OP I have noted a boom at 11:35 local time, and another at 12:03...
Keeping an ear to the ground...

Bull Crap thread.
Don't listening.

This is a fake post.

Just because Wisconson has then doesn't mean you want attention and have them.

90% it would be about testing in Area 51.

many people around here usually ignore noises and movements.

the streets here shake a lot from normal traffic.

Alright, Murphy wins. There hasn't been one boom since I started the camera. I'll keep trying and I'm ready now if they do start up again. AAArrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!

Sorry buddy. You're wrong. I did not even hear about the Wisconsin business until I was searching for sites reporting seismology. But then I thought, "Gee, that's an awfully strange coincidence?"

and to the guy in Summerlin, your description sounds like what I was talking about. They're not explosive like a sonic boom, and the whole this is relatively quick, like a second or two... we'll see...

east side here and didn't hear anything today. though now and again the jets seemingly fly closer to where I live and I came to the conclusion that the f-22's are the noise culprit.

ok, it's now Friday morning, the day after... 10:38 am, standing in front of my house - There go the Booms again. ok, got phone running now hopefully there'll be another...

New possible theory: New water show in front of Bellagio. When the largest jets launch the largest streams to the highest point, they let out a Big "POP!!!" and I mean BIG. Given the distance, it's possible just the lowest frequencies make it here. plus, the semi-regularity (vs. true regularity) could be explained by interaction with wind/air flow, thus allowing the booms to reach my home less than consistently... I'll be at Bellagio tomorrow morning at 10:30 for sure.

Don't know what to tell you then, you're in the same area as I and yesterday it was loud enough to rattle my windows sometime after 11 am when I was sitting outside out back. I only heard it once yesterday and...

It just happened again here at 12:38 pm pst but this time it was more subtle/quiet than yesterday but still audible, still enough to rattle a window while I was outside watering. USGS shows no new quakes in the area. Could it be the aerial gunnery range some 60+ miles north of us? Maybe.

We are living close to summerlin area, and we hear this so called noise or sound or I don't even know what to call it. Sometimes it's just a little rumbling sound, and once in a while the windows start shaking for a second. And it last about two seconds. I don't think that anybody with a regular recorder could be able to catch this sound. I have been in earthquakes and these are kind of like the beginning of a quake for a very short time. Yesterday morning we felt a pretty big sound/shake.....it was bigger than usual.

I'm not sure what's happening either, but here in North Las Vegas I've been hearing and feeling it for probably close to a week.

Today, after a series of waves that actually made the closet doors in my office vibrate (about 12:30 PM or so), I decided to hit Google and see if anyone else had done a search. And though there were a few articles about the Wisconsin thing (which seems to be originating underground), there was nothing on this issue, until I finally found this thread.

I'm retired Air Force and the fighter jets fly their sorties over my house about three times a day - 9:00 AM, mid-afternoon and about 11:30 PM - almost every day. More during exercises.

And while I'm sure they are probably heading to the Nellis bombing range (or perhaps the one in Idaho), I've lived here for over 10 years and have never experienced anything but jet noise from them. Although the sound is quite intrusive (especially at 11:30 at night), I can only recall a few times when some would-be Top Gun overdid it and made a sonic boom.

THIS sound, is more like a sub-sonic boom. Less loud and intrusive sound waves, but still quite noticeable - particularly when they shake your whole house.

I'm really not sure if some "super ordnance" could create such a series of shock waves, considering that aircraft of all types have been bombing the crap out of the Nellis bombing range for a very long time, without any negative local feedback.

In fact, while active duty, I had the privilege of attending one of the Red Flag demos where several types of bombers, even B52s from Ellsworth AFB in S. Dakota, came to the party to drop their loads. I'm talking heavy bombs!

And guess what? Not very loud to us spectators sitting in the stands with our binoculars, with a clear line of sight (and sound) watching the bombs explode a couple of miles away.

Not knowing all the physics of sound waves, my best guess is that they are upper atmosphere sonic booms. The lower atmosphere helps to muffle and dampen the effect, but some of the larger waves still get through. From known or unknown aircraft, presumably belonging to the US.

Anyway, I'm glad I'm not the only one that's experienced these things. I hope someone finds out and chimes in. Has anyone contacted the major News channels?

Hi, we live off of flamingo and ft apache. A member of my family mentioned hearing the weird booms described by the original poster earlier this week, but I thought nothing of it, and neither did she. However, today around noon, three of us in the same house heard/felt the sub sonic booms. I too, got on Google and started doing searches for "las vegas" booms in the past couple of days and this forum thread came up. So I felt that I should register on this forum and post. I can assure everyone here that this is not fake and we all heard the booms this afternoon. I am going to start recording the date and time when/if there are more. If you come across this thread as I have, please take the time to register and post. Maybe it's something, maybe it's nothing, but it's definitely out of the norm.

I have heard them as well. I have been hearing them for a few weeks. Finally, yesterday, I had enough. I called Metro, just to see if anyone else has reported this noise. The dispatcher, told me she was going to call the area sergeant to ask him if there has been any reports as well. 3 minutes later, the dispatcher returned my call and said that they have received dozens of reports on this sound. So, if it was fake, is Metro in on it too? It is not fake. It sounds like a sonic boom, but underground, and it's powerful enough to shake my home. Each time I have heard it, I have been inside my garage. and, several of my neighbors have heard these booms as well.

Since it's been going on for weeks. I think it's time I try to record these sounds on video as well as digital recorder. I have no doubt in my mind, that these booms will continue. It's always between 10:30 in the morning to about 1:30 in the afternoon. I have yet to hear them in the evening. I would really like to know what's going on. These noises are a bit unnerving. Have you heard anymore? Before I forget, I live in Southern Highlands. I found this site because I wanted to know if anyone in Vegas heard the same thing I did...

That is when it started for me too. I remember hearing the last one, just before my friend came over, which was around 12:45. I think it was at least 45 min before she came over when I heard the last one.

She was at the park just 2 blocks from here. Every single mother and child felt it on the playground she was at. So much so, that one of the mothers snatched up her child from the playground in a bit of a panic.
Being that I am hearing and feeling it here in Southern Highlands, is a bit scary, if these sounds are also being heard in Summerlin as well? I didn't hear them today, however, I spent most the morning driving. Hopefully I will be able to catch them on video as well as digital recorder. Let me know if and when you hear them again... Hopefully when we do, we'll have our recording devices on the ready, so we can capture this mysterious booming noise..
