First post to give a scientific perspective on the NOAA data.

Japan 'event' - I've reviewed the data and it looks like the sensor has been disturbed by 4.5cm in a small amount of time. (Due to the smaller tides offshore and the larger wavelengths (km's++++) of tsunami's these sensors need to be highly accurate and very sensitive) this sensor is in 5000m of water so the 4.5cm change puts things in perspective. This is not a tsunami, the instrument has just been disturbed. www.ndbc.noaa.gov...

N. America 'event' - the sensor is faulty, the data is scientifically impossible, a sudden 40m reduction in water level then back to it's previous level all day is rubbish. Someone is not doing QAQC of data. www.ndbc.noaa.gov...

Mexico event - yep this one is real but it's a small event. What would be more interesting would be coastal tide gauges in ports. The offshore system was measuring 20cm variations every minute for 5 minutes in 3500m of water before calming down. In contrast, the variations in Japan lasted days not minutes. While this would cause a trigger this is a very minor tsunami. Any major issues would occur in any ports with breakwaters aligned in such a way that as the wave attempts to propagate offshore it is trapped and sieching occurs as further waves are created and combine to create more destructive waves. www.ndbc.noaa.gov...

I hope this first post has been informative.

Update at 4:25 p.m. ET: In its revision, the USGS says the earth ruptured 12.4 miles deep, double its initial estimate.

?
What does that mean? Is that normal wording (sorry I'm new to this stuff)? To say that the "earth ruptured"? I thought earthquakes we're the plates rubbing against each other.. do the split open too?

Is that a normal depth?

Sorry, excuse my noobieness

i saw a few pics of buildings that were pretty bad. also a transit bus that was halved by a falling bridge.

Dear WhiteHouse,

We don't give a # about Malia Obama, what do you know about this earthquake cycle???? And is the other Obama daughter in Mexico as well? Are they there to wait it out? And where exactly is emperor Obama gonna be in Denver tomorrow night?

Sincerely,
A guy with questions....

I would totally send that to them.. lol

Last time the Obama's went to Mexico, we got Swine Flu released. Now earthquakes.
Not too happy about him coming to Denver...

I think you found another pattern.

Okay.. but the odds of two big quakes back to back are slim.. (not counting aftershocks).. I guess we'll see.

Very glad there are no deaths or major incidences reported. This was a strong enough event to be felt here where I am in Michoacán, about a 12-hour drive to Acapulco (three hours out to the coast on a twisty, mountainous freeway then the rest along a somewhat slow-driving coast highway) and another couple hours beyond.

No damages here, fortunately, but people felt the movement and observed suspended objects swaying. I took an early siesta today and awoke to find my custom-carved broom that had been free-standing for 16 days - since a thread about that appeared here on ATS - had fallen over. I stood it back up where it has remained free-standing on its own throughout any aftershocks which have not been perceptible to me at all. It was a few minutes later until I had learned about the earthquake online, on ATS actually.

The quake was sizeable enough to be felt by many us (who weren't sleeping like myself) some distance away and fortunately was centered far enough away from large urban centers to not cause extreme damages.

ETA: Appears I spoke too soon about damages as it appears a city of around 50,000 people near the epicenter experienced extensive damages to many homes. We're thankful no deaths or serious injuries are yet reported. Hopefully none will be.

The brightest is Venus (as it's closest and surround by gas, reflecting the light to great effect).

The other is Jupiter - despite it being the gas giant of the solar system, it's great distance from Earth makes it appear much smaller than Venus).

From where i'm standing they are perfectly aligned for the first time tonight (is this not the case from other perspectives in other parts of the world right now?

This explains it pretty well:

I love the people saying the theory doesn't take ALL earthquakes. Did they ever stop to think that the theory predicts that in rougly 188 days there will at least be an earthquake of significant magnitude? I'll repeat that...

.....in rougly 188 days there will at least be an earthquake of significant magnitude...

......in rougly 188 days there will at least be an earthquake of significant magnitude....

....in rougly 188 days there will at least be an earthquake of significant magnitude.......

Guess what, those other quakes don't fall within the 188 day cycle, so they're no necessary for the theory. The theory is simply that every 188 days there is going to be a SIGNIFICANT quake. To say they're cherry picking is just a simple way for skeptics to cop out of understanding what the theory is about. To say they cherry picked the first quake is dumb too, because no one noticed the "cycle" until it became more and more obvious that it was actually happening in front of their faces, due to how powerful the quakes have been getting in recent years. But by all means skeptics, go about your day with a closed mind. Have fun bringing up the rear of the pack of enlightenment! Just don't try and hop on the bandwagon!

Also, instead of shooting down the 188 cycle, why don't you come up with your own theory or hypothesis? I'll repeat that too.

why don't you come up with your own theory or hypothesis??

why don't you come up with your own theory or hypothesis????

why don't you come up with your own theory or hypothesis??????

If you can come up with something that makes more sense than what is currently going on, I'd LOOOOOOOOOOOVE to hear it. Seriously, I would....I feel like we all would.

Actually, it's an earthquake of significant magnitude, which shifts the earths axis ever so slightly..

Ok, fine.

"Earthquakes happen".

Got it?

Guess what, dude. Your "theory" is virtually the same thing. It has exactly the same explanatory powers as mine does, it predicts exactly the same thing with exactly the same outcome for exactly the same reasons.

You get it yet? This "theory" of yours says that a "significant" earthquake will happen every 188 days...and that's all it says.

So. What. Earthquakes happen all the time.

The theory can't be easily dismissed, when there are 3 significant earthquakes, within hours of each other, it bears discussion, and possible investigating......

Well,

At least I did'nt read about "chemtrails" causing this quake

Or did I miss it?

I am not ready to dismiss the 188 day thing but, it sure sucks that most of this thread is nothing but a bunch of bickering about 188 days, instead of real news about the quake.

Is there a link to a thread just about the quake? If so, can someone throw it my way because I want the facts.

Thanks

It is a curious thing. i agree the person who put forth the theory, and put it out to the entire world to test, never said "all" or "some" but evaluated based on "significant" and we can all agree the one's listed were significant in damage, attention, and size. So how folks can't see this, refuse to knowledge it, or simply want see something else is confusing to me - but telling. It would seem these people, who have no theories of their own (let alone put it out to the world to test) will disagree with the agreed upon time of day simply out of ????

Now we'll see the hair splitting to death: "we'll it wasn't 188 according to the international date line, so he's wrong HA!" or "calenders are artificial anyway, so what" or the obvious "how about all the other quakes, HA!"

I don't get it... is it ignorance, stupidity, childishness, too much diet coke?
