HAH! I remember hearing David Suzuki (? Pretty sure it was him?) back in the Bulsh days saying the US had spent enough on the Debacle in Iraq to convert it's oil based economy over to a Hydrogen based economy.
Gee I'd love to hear that interview again...

One cannot base an economy on a derived product, so the term "hydrogen economy" is meaningless. What you really have is a reducing electron economy where reduced species have chemical potential in an oxidizing atmosphere. Hydrogen has a poor volumetric energy density and is not a good transportation fuel because of it. The source of the hydrogen is another problem. The least expensive hydrogen is from reforming of methane which argues for merely burning the methane. Electrolysis hydrogen can cost upwards of ten times as much as hydrogen from reformed methane or gasified biomass. If you think transportation fuels are expensive now, wait for electrolysis and a $2-3 trillion cost for the distribution and storage infrastructure. Hydrogen is one of the worst energy storage compounds. As with many environmentalists, David Suzuki has good intentions but his thoughts are clouded by wishful thinking.

What I don't understand about this is that if it costs 10 bucks per barrel to produce, why is there such a high markup to 100 bucks a barrel?

Because that's about the current market price for a barrel of No.6 Crude Oil.

And I like this new process, it's better to turn the plastic into water vapor, and carbon dioxide that plants can use to grow, than just leaving it in the landfills.

Speaking of, here is a process that is along the same lines, it's actually just recycling the plastics back into plastic pellets, worth a watch....

Mind you... if everyone bought one of those... the companies that make our modern shavers would have to send all their employees home without pay and close up shop

So what, so many people work in useless jobs, thinking that a human being can only learn one job in his whole lifetime.

Ok...maybe that razor isn't the best example

I guess we can blame capitalism, in communism, if you have people working in a useless goal, you just make the change...just wanted to give capitalism a -1 since someone boasted it earlier on

There are five continental sized islands of plastic floating in our oceans and this technology could convert and reduce most of them down to nothing.

why just Plastic To Oil?????

With the The Fischer–Tropsch process (or Fischer–Tropsch synthesis)(US patent no. 1,746,464, applied 1926,) you can turn all trash(biomass) to oil.
Plus sewage and many forms of hazardous waste can be turned into oil at the same plant.

There are millions if tons of trash collected in the US every day.

And for a cost of about $60 a barrel plus we no longer will have to deal with the dangers created by landfills.

It will not fuel the US alone but its that much oil that we don't have to get from the arabs.

Speak for yourself. I am highly-educated, highly-skilled and self employed...i.e. a VALUABLE COMMODITY.

I have my bug-out bag at the ready and my open ticket to get me to 'X marks the spot' which happens to be in uninhabited dense forestry land that I own.

The Chinese is not running my privately held company and never will!

As long as I can think I will be independent and well in the black!

*Chinese food is highly overrated!
