The suicide of a 16-year-old Moroccan girl who was forced to marry her rapist has provoked outrage from local human rights groups and across the internet.
An online petition, a Facebook page and Twitter users all called for changes to the country's laws after Amina Filali swallowed rat poison on Saturday to protest against her marriage to the man who assaulted her a year earlier.

Hard to believe there are still places within human society where things like this are still allowed to happen. What has this world turned into?
Campaigners are also calling for the judge who allowed the marriage and the rapist to be jailed.

Actually, disgraces such as this has never gone away. Things like this has happened as long as there has been humans. This is not something that has just started occurring.

Now we're talking.
Then there's the father.
Culture is no excuse for barbarity. Morocco: infamy and shame are yours to the uttermost. The world watches to see your remorse and hopes that this will never again be permitted.

So if the guy can escape jailtime because he marries the girl, now that she is dead he is liable for punishment for the original crime no?
Which the article states is 10-20 years in bars.
Perhaps that is what the young girl wanted. In the most unfortunate circumstances possible.

I'm sure it's pure coincidence that Morocco is one of the most steadfast allies to the United States outside of Europe proper and the NATO nations. One of the few remaining, I might add.
Forced marriage is an evil concept and horrible practice...and it's widely practiced in large areas of the world. Why this one, in this place...at this moment in time for a major media/internet focus? Of course...the geopolitical elephant is of no matter. Err...

What kind of a civilization encourages the sexualization of toddlers? Or pays athletes millions while children starve?
My point is not to say that I agree with forcing someone to marry their rapist. My point is that when you take off the blinders of culture we do a lot of things that are completely messed up as well. And if we want others to "fix" whats wrong with their cultures we had better be prepared to look at ourselves in the mirror and fix whats wrong with ours.

No sympathy from me.
If the girl thought about it, she should have killed her new hubby.
There are many ways to go about dispatching sleeping scumbags.
But, for one reason or another, she killed herself.

Nope, I'd do it just like I said.
If the girl got sentanced, she'd still have the satisfaction of knowing said dirtbag would never do that to another EVER.
If I am going to die, I might as well do a good for humanity, right?
