New York State Set to Add All Convict DNA to Its Database

www.blacklistednews.com

ALBANY — New York is poised to establish one of the most expansive DNA databases in the nation, requiring people convicted of everything from fare beating to first-degree murder to provide samples of their DNA to the state.

On Tuesday, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and state lawmakers were putting the finishing touches on a deal to establish a so-called all-crimes DNA database, a move that is supported by all of the state’s 62 district attorneys and 58 sheriffs, as well as 400 police chiefs. New York al

What do you think about this ATS?

Another sign of the evergrowing policestate?

Another infringement on your personal privacy?

Or a tool for the better of mankind?

I'm inclined to believe this is another infringement on the rights of American Citizens.

I hope this doesn't get through...

The former Governor David Paterson tried to do the same thing. The Times Union Capital Confidential blog is a good inside source of what goes on in NY politics.

Cuomo is a scumbag. He's also trying to re-negotiate a new retirement plan (Tier VI) because apparently pensions might bankrupt some municipalities. Pensions, that have been paid into and are very much earned.

Hi kn0wh0w.

I think the USA accounts for less than 5% of the total population of humanity on Earth.
I think the USA has the highest documented incarceration rate of any nation on Earth.
I think the population grew 2.8 times between 1906 and 2006, but the incarceration rate grew 20 times in that same time.

I think no one knows all the laws and rules in the USA.
I don't think these laws are required learning in schools.

I don't believe if we locked up all the current lawmakers in a nice plush posh hotel resort and did not let them out until they wrote down all the existing laws word for word from memory that they would live long enough to accomplish the task.

I think the citizens of my state (Illinois) only get less than 75% of the federal taxes they pay back to them by the federal government. Which is to say that for every dollar we pay in federal taxes the United States government only spends about 75 cents on the state of Illinois .... While the states with the richest people in it get 600% to 700% back in federal assistance for each dollar they pay in federal taxes.

These are a few statistics I think should factor in when we choose to judge how programs such as these dna mapping of all convicts and law breakers are considered.

Hi. Care to elaborate or go into more detail about this?

Thanks in advance if you care to share.

WTF man, fare beating really? The whole idea is a totalitarian/police state's wet dream, and the media here at least in NYC is acting like Cuomo is the second coming of christ or something. Totally unconstitutional and ripe for corruption and false convictions.
