I am stunned by how ridiculous American Television has become...

I forgot to mention my dirty secret: Project Runway. I don't know why this show fascinates me. I could care less about fashion and the extent of my sewing skills are buttons.

Just think how much money and time we could save by tossing the tv. I'd love to do it but I'm pretty sure it'd end in a divorce.

the general populous is dumb and enjoys entertainment on that sort of level. try explaining to them that their favorite reality shows are fake and they will refuse with every last breath in their body. the lineup on truTV really takes the cake, but people think it's real. when people in powerful positions see how gullible the masses are, is it really any wonder how the world ended up in the shape it is today??

oh, I and only watch cartoons

I'm with you 100% on this, here in the UK the TV is full ofr reality shows on any subject you care to mention,Dancing on Ice,Britain's got talent(now there's a bloody misnomer if ever there was one!),pop idol,American Idol etc etc etc as well as many mind numbingly insipid programmes about cooking, House renovation, fishing even! I find this extremely worrying everything is laid out on a plate for the audience,no thought required, but then that is the intention anyway isn't it?.
I too yearn for Tom and Jerry and Roger Ramjet! and we used to get classic Laurel and Hardy,Chaplin and Buster Keaton Movies as well as Sgt Bilko.

I actually liked Project Runway awhile back, because its not about the latest trend, but when its about art. And fashion can be art.
I have several cousins now that are artists and one is a designer. It is amazing what they come up with. so when you look at fashion design as art, and not shopping, it takes on a lot more meaning.

I actually stopped watching PR because 1) I think the show is very racist.
I stopped watching after petal girl beat Korto in 2006 I believe. Korto's work is stunning. This was not the first time that a black person should of won and didn't.

But I also don't oppose every day people being the stars of shows other then then your pre-selected, already overindulged actors. Real or not.

I do like Nat Geo and History Channel especially on the weekend. Syfy is good but way too many commercials.

O yea: Laurel and Hardy: A dance scene in "Way Out West" I guess folks today would say it was rediculous when they did it. But at least it was good clean fun and there was no sex or profanity.
.. 2 minutes of something that is not....reality but rather just plain fun.

www.youtube.com...

Cartoons are good. I like the roadrunner myself, and felix the cat

I understand where you're coming from. We pay $70.00 to Comcast for extended basic cable and HD box and nearly every weekend we have literally nothing on. Legally Blonde movies every two weeks in. Hallmark channel has a fixation with the movie The Parent Trap, endless repeats of Harry Potter films and Pirates of the Carribbean, the pay station is no better anymore they're showing things that have been on regular cable Sister Act, Gladiator.
Someone once said TV was a wasteland now its more like no man's land.

Reality shows have almost completely taken over UK telly as well. I suppose it's cheaper, plus the fans of each show will be subjected to tons of subtle or subliminal advertising within each show. Whether it's wallpaper & paint, food, or hair and make-up. Then there are also the Ads in between, usually every 5 bloody minutes.

About the only shows I will make an effort to watch are Supernatural, Eureka, Warehouse 13.

I will watch the occasional Pawn Stars and American Pickers.

Investigation Discovery channel is a very depressing channel but interesting at times.

The We network shows reruns of Frasier.

But really, there's hardly anything to watch. I much prefer watching movies or TV shows on DVDs instead or other media.

That's the big problem with big business, is it's all about profit, and nothing else. In order to make profit, you must make things cheaply, and reality shows are the cheapest forms of entertainment you can get.

I miss the old History Channel and the actual Science Chanel when they actually showed real history and science, not dramatized science for entertainment or reality shows like American Chopper or pawn Stars crap.

And I find I don't enjoy those cartoons all that often anymore. And a lot of the new cartoons have just this bizarre art in it that I just can't get past.

You see, the other big problem with TV too is saturation. If a show becomes popular, then all other channels have to get in on the band wagon and have their own version of the show. Eventually there'll be too much and people will call for variety.

Toddlers and Tiaras.

Need I say more? Absolute evil. I hate everything about it. It's the Mothers' faults of course, the stupid cows need a good Benny Hill slap on the head.

Oh man, have you had the misfortune to stumble upon a show where the Mums and Dads of teenagers are secretly spying on them whilst they're on holiday? So, these teenagers are getting up to all sorts, the girls are acting slutty and the boys are acting slutty too and yet their parents are sitting there secretly watching them and cringing at what their kids are doing. All the while these teens are thinking that they are the subject of a reality tv show with NO idea their parents are watching their every move live. When some of these teens find this out they go mad, and rightly so.

What are the parents playing at? What are the tv producers playing at and what are the audience playing at for watching such wrongness?

The show itself is called ''Sun, Sex and Suspicious Parents''

So intrusive.

I live in Malaysia and I grew up watching American movies, cartoons and TV shows. I specially remembered "One Step Beyond", "Science Fiction Theatre" and "Twilight Zone". Which is why I am so fascinated with Ufos and alien beings but sadly we don't see ufos here. I like "Roadrunner" too and the other day they showed those very old "Loony Tunes" black & white cartoons. Reality TV like "Wipeout", "American Idol", "X Factor", "America's Got Talent" are also fine. As I no longer subscribe to cable TV I usually go to Youtube to catch the "Ancient Alien" series. I am disappointed they no longer show any cowboy shows anymore. "Have Gun Will Travel". "Colt 45" "The Texan" were some of my favorites. Today cartoons are mostly Japanese anime type so I do not watch anymore. Its a pity the show "The Event " was cancelled. I really liked the series which is about a group of aliens stranded on Earth. All in all American TV have a lot more to offer and is more interesting than our locally produced telemovie or series. You don't know what you have until you've gone out and travel and live in other places.

I just turned 62. I remember "Tobar The Robot" , grew up with Jackie Gleason, and Lucy.
There was no sex, no profanity, and no deceit. Our children were not exposed to any of the previous from TV.
I used to think I was just getting old. Well, maybe, but not so old I cannot tell what is just, good, and right.
I have cable TV. I almost never watch it. The TV is for movies of our choosing. Not HBO or something someone else chooses for me to watch. I have cable for the Internet connection...
Reality TV is not real and there is no reality to it. It is deviant TV. It is fake. It is there for only one reason. To make money and turn our young into couch potato zombies.
I have a term for all of this garbage spewing into the homes of people around the world.
"Normalizing deviancy" Over time...taking that which is not good, just and right, and making it appear to
be....just, good and right. Our children learn it is OK to murder, rape and kill as a result of TV...after all...we have seen it a thousand times on TV so it must be good.
Reality TV is the worst of all because it gives the impression of a good thing, with no murder, rape etc. People are looking for reality by escaping into a world of deceit. This is not the way the world is. The world is real. The TV? Well let's just say if you were to throw it out tonight, after a week or so. You would not have missed a moment of reality. You miss the reality while you view Reality programing. Or any programming; Especially the MSM.
Reality TV

Nothing on TV is real. Not even the news....no especially the news.
This is one of my pet peeves so I thought I would add a little to your rant. Sorry; I have had a very bad day
DH

I just read your reply and I must thank you for the honesty and experience you delivered in my thread. I was raised by my grandmother who was born in 1907, but whom passed away in 1993. It's fair to say that my Granny, never watched any of this madness. She would be turning over in her grave if she had to witness such non sense!

Thank the universe for our elders who do their best at "Keeping It Real"
