No agency should ever get comfortable strafing people, you may panic if you want.I however am a real good shot and strafing civillians is against FAA and military law so why not get your self a nifty bang stick and next time should this vehicle try to strafe you ,you may appropriately display your mood.

Edit to add: Correction, the OP had time to run for her life, THEN get in her car and drive (where, how long). Then call 911. Then wait for the police to get there. Then give a statement. Then calm her kids down from this event. Then drive home because she had been out driving. Then log on to ATS (instead of calling friends or family, or doing ANY sort of local research FIRST) and posts a huge thread. Oh, all of this happened in 20 Minute time frame.

BS

I bet Oswald can do it. ::rolls eyes::

------

Op just contact the local FAA on Monday
and Don't shoot at anything in the sky. If you did that then they ( authority ) would favor them
and most likely label you as a home grown terrorist and all the goodies that comes with that.

If you called the police then they will also have the date and time you called to help your case.

If its your land , I "think"you can request for them NOT to touch and go on it. "Unless emergency"

con·spir·a·cy the·o·ry
Noun:
A belief that some covert but influential organization is responsible for an unexplained event.

Indeed. But members are trying to inspire and allude to a reasonable, rational explanation where there doesn't necessarily need to be a conspiracy in the first place. This happened "twenty minutes ago". It's an understandably upsetting scenario and so would probably benefit more from objective scrutiny after the hype has died down some.

Additionally, the fact that you say the helicopter came "down in this same manner in the backyard two houses down" might suggest that this wasn't a personal attack.

You certainly don't want to be brandishing anything at an aircraft, you're not the air-police, and you don't have any authority over the airspace above your property. If you threaten an aircraft with anything, be it a laser or a weapon, expect to sped a lot of time in prison.
Again...Auto-rotation...

I'm glad you and your son are ok. It sounds pretty crazy to me.

If a chopper was dipping down like that in open areas near me I would be taking it seriously regardless. From what you describe this was way too close for comfort.

I guess its sort of like when you smile after the big drop on a roller coaster. First time I did some acrobatics in a plane, I was smiling from ear to ear. It's quite thrilling and fun actually.

Edit to add:
I suppose that I should point out that they mention in that video about how they have to practice doing them all the time, so if they are ever in a real emergency its like second nature to them.

I have to say the person who spun this thread could be a nervous aggresor or attention seeker.

A child taunting a helicopter is dangerous and quite frankly rude into the bargain.By taking time to spill the tawdry details you have made this story into a House that will be built bigger forever as more rooms are attached. In plain mans terms a little slice of lemon will be squeezed on this story everytime..

Sounds just like some dreams I've had. I can't explain em. I'm not a flyboy. I am not military. I've had dreams where helicopters and jet things are flying around the area and I'm trying to hide from them. I don't know what they're doing. But I think they're looking for people to shoot or something. It's terrifying to see huge things so close like that. It's the predator vs prey reflex. In some dreams I hear explosions.

People don't understand that these kinds of things can instill terror in people. Remember Shock & Awe? In Iraq? I believe it. I would find the deepest bomb shelter and stay there or get out of the city.

Damn id hate to be a pilot in difficulties in the USA.
Whats with everyone saying shoot them lol?? Buy a pistol, no buy a rifle...

I doubt if someone were trying to kill you they would go to the difficulty of learning how to fly a helicopter, hiring a helicopter, and then writing it off by killing you and them in a burning inferno.

Its not very inconspicuous...not a quiet murder...

One of my friends, friends, has a small helicopter. He once landed at my friends stables....in a field at the back. I dont know if its the same with big choppers, but the small ones are affected by getting close to the ground. They wobble all over the place.

Sounds like a pilot in difficulty, not an attempted assassination.

You don't happen to live in Colorado, do you? I know a guy with about 700 acres in northern Colorado that's had the military landing on his property for years. He asked them one time what they were doing, and they threatened to shoot him.

Yeah, dude. Don't even start with me, you can take this ridiculous trolling elsewhere I am not in the mood to be messed with. You have no idea the terror I just experienced so shut your freaking trap.

I was frozen in a panic and it was HEAD ON. I am under the assumption that numbers are on the side, it was the last thing I was thinking of.

Cry me a river.

No need to be rude just because you got a fright. People die every day for Gods sake, just count your blessings, call the authorities and stay vigilant.

Ummmm....YES they are!!! I don't know what country you live or what military that you might be referring to (Bosnian????) but I had NEVER witnessed NOR HEARD of ANY U.S. or hell even NATO forces at least in the U.S. of EVER having done something like that (to a woman and her 3 year old no doubt). You sir/ma'am CLEARLY have no clue what you say regarding this incident.

I can't believe this guys, really?
I don't know why I post here anymore.

Well, I sincerely hope you continue posting because for every ONE that is here ridiculing you or making fun of a terrifying experience you had today, there are a few others more than willing to help in any way we can.

I'd say there probably a dozen more that aren't members, but reading your thread and either getting something from it or making mental notes for the future. Don't let the garbage get ya down... Although there sure were some nasty examples early on the thread, eh?

I'm glad to hear you made the calls to the local Airports. How many blue helicopters out on this specific day over that specific patch of land can there be??? Even Muni- fields with no manned tower might get back with you from someone who just recognizes the description of whoever's Helicopter the guy calling back may have seen. I think this is the most promising avenue for answers myself... At least until you see what your FAA filing generates. At LEAST..the FAA may get far enough to confirm that indeed, this was a training flight with real bad judgement....or not.

Actually get those dreams rater frequently and they scare the hell out of me. Really lowing fly aircraft and the noise is usually the most frightening part.

Glad you and your son are okay. I know, I would of been freaking out.

It could be a new pilot in training. I know my family has flipped a Cessna or two trying to learn how to fly. So it can be possible. I hope you weren't targets of anything sinister. I don't think you were. Unless you have some top secret info we don't know about.

Good luck and stay safe.

Next time get the numbers of the plane. That would definitely help out. Even you get the last 3 or first 3, it's something they can go on.

If that happened to me I'd have had them served for trespassing, assault, and would have an injunction filed against them in a heartbeat.

From reading your post it sounds like the helicopter was performing an autorotation. Now when a helicopter starts this maneuver they are up at altitude. This could be anywhere from at least 500 AGL (above ground level) and above. Most likely it was started between 800 to 1000 AGL, this is where I enter my auto's at.

If it was a student and instructor, the instructor gave the student an emergency procedure (EP) that would result in the student performing an autorotation. When flying a helicopter a pilot is always looking for a place to point the aircraft to land or auto should an EP happen.

It is also best to auto a helicopter into the wind because you want to have that extra wind to help you at. At the bottom of an auto the pilot needs to level the helicopter and pull the collective to cushion the helicopter to a landing. If the pilot at the controls who is performing the auto is not very smooth on the controls the aircraft will not be smooth and can act "wild" at the bottom of the maneuver.

An autoration is a very intense EP for a pilot. The pilot is scaning the radar altimeter (shows the helo altitude AGL) and the ground. Once a certain altitude is reached the pilot cushions the aircraft so they don't hit the ground. Had this been a real auto the helicopter would of hopefully "landed" at the bottom of the auto.
