I drove a new Ford escort GT which was a 1991 model to 155Mph on I-5 and that was close to redline in 5th gear, it felt very smooth then, but after the car had 100k miles on it, it was scary feeling going just half that speed, but those cars are not a quality item anyways..lol

I also drove a 2001 Suzuki bandit 1200 to about 165mph and it could have gone a lot faster.. This was also when it was brand new. 2 years later I broke my leg hitting a guard rail trying to avoid a drunk driver so I sold it...

If caught driving those speeds it's in the slammer overnight, and fortunately, I never got to experience getting caught.

The SVT Contours weren't much better. "Hey guys, let's make a newer version of the Escort GT and give it some decent suspension and a lot more power. cool?"

No. It wasn't cool. After 25k it started to shake and the suspension went TWICE at 28k and 39k. I ended up using excessive aftermarket parts and selling it. I used the money to get a ZX2 S/R and a new SVT 2.5 for it. I gave that to my ex when we broke up because it would be easier to drop off and pick up our daughter from each other. 3 transmissions later it sits parked in a grassy area next to her apartment building, rust having moved from the rocker panels and frame up the doors and almost to the hood. Out of sheer spite it sits there with her refusing to let me have it back. If she knew there were only 2100 of them I'm sure she'd be taking much better care of it until it becomes a collector's car (the numbers matching motor is still in my garage, too).

Fastest I've ever gone is 115mph in a '94 Mitsubishi Lancer I know it's lame. That freeway connecting Georgia to Florida.

Fastest I ever gone in gravel is 75 mph in Te Akau West Coast Rd I think in a '96 Toyota Starlet hatch. Same place where WRC NZ 2009 was held I think. I was doing some practice runs and drifting as fast as 60 mph on the corners. It's unlike the straight USA style gravel. It's full of twist and turns even the WRC guys cannot go much faster than 100 mph.

Still lame but 75mph in a twisty gravel road feels a lot faster and scarier than 120 mph in a freeway! It was also very tricky handling a car not setup for rally. It loved to fishtail at high speed unless you kept a lead foot on the throttle to maintain an understeer (it's a fwd) so downhills are especially dangerous. Maybe because my Starlet didn't have an anti-roll bar at the front (only at the back) which made it prone to oversteering at high speed. It would do so even in paved roads under heavy rain.

Fastest I have driven was in my 2005 GTO. It fully built and was running an APS Twin Turbo Kit. On the dyno it put 682 hp down at the rear wheels. On an empty stretch on the I-15 here in Southern California very late at night, I was tickling 180 mph (290 kph). I was scared when the front end felt light and unplanted, and I let out of it. Never did it again, and I probably never will.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

110 MPH - I-91 outside Springfield Mass
35 years ago ... when I was 17 years old in high school.
Dang stupid thing to do. We blew out the motor in the car.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

130 mph was the last reading I saw when I glanced down........right before I saw the blue lights of a Kentucky State Trooper

Seriously thinking about one of these for Christmas.

Been driving on my own since about 12 or 13 years old, driving is one of my favorite things to do. Pushing vehicles of all kinds to their limits, becoming one with your machine...I live by the saying "Drive it like you stole it".

Fastest I've ever driven was right at 130mph in a 2002 BMW 325i. I hit that speed quite a few times, mostly on I95 here in Florida. The car was mostly stock with a few add-ons like big brakes and some basic intake upgrades and such. Nothing spectacular. That was as fast as the car would go, and it felt like we were cruising along at about 80mph. Smoothest suspension I could ever ask for in that thing.

The fastest I've ever 'traveled' in a car was about 180mph in a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4, right down the street from my house. Bright yellow, all-wheel-drive, more upgrades than I could ever describe, either 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmission...taking off in that car was like being in a jet or some carnival ride that uses centrifugal force to shove you back in your seat. Seemed like it only took about 5 or 6 seconds to get up to a butthole-puckering speed, and a few more after that my friend just said "180" and came to a dead stop in the middle of the street just as fast as we took off. My friend who owned it is the only person on this planet that I would ride shotgun at speeds like that.

Nowadays I drive a gutless wonder (old Ford Ranger), it's a lot harder to wrap myself around a pole/tree if I'm creeping through the trails instead of burning rubber all around town.

About 160mph with two wheels and a fast engine underneath me. In FLA on a state road out east.. 160 on a motorcycle is much different than being in a cage..

Now I prefer sailing..

Love me some terminator cobras, nothing like the Eaton whine! I’ve got a 99 that will get a terminator or kenne bell blower eventually.

119 mph on a private road in an MR2 mk2. The car cut out accelerating at that speed as the limiter hits there.119 mph these days is not that fast, in an old mk2 with the weight behind you it feels mental. Without any doubt the scariest thing ever, can't think of anything more scary. A normal car at that speed is pretty easy, in a mk2 it can be described as extremely hair raising. The car starts to lift at the front end around 80mph, this does settle down over 110 as the nose is seemingly forced down but you really feel like the car is starting to take off like a plane on the runway. Tried it, done it, never ever again

140+ mph in a friends 71 Torino GT one morning before school our senior year. Buried the 140 mph speedo. Straight 2 lane highway, no traffic. The front end was lifting and so was the back edge of the hood. A few years later we made a 500 mile trip in 6 hours stopping 3 times for gas with one of those included breakfast with the same car.

Also had my 69 Mustang beyond the 120 mph speedo. 351C with 4 speed manual trans. 2 lane highway with a long gentle curve in the middle of about a 6 mile stretch. I didn't hit 4th gear till 100 mph. Shut it down at the end of the 6 mile stretch.

There are times when the speed feels...…… pure. I can't think of any other way to express it. A melding of mind and body and machine into a new organism that senses the outside limits of all three and rides them.

It's a wonder that any of us survived. ;o)
