Numbers like 400 million as in per years ? Always put a very puzzled look on my face. That is one long ass time even to the pyramids. 400 million yrs would leave no trace of New York city in my mind. Nor the pyramids.

Looks like organic fossils to me. The third post nailed it when he identified them as "crinoid stem fossils".

Looking at one of the sources, they post an x-ray image of supposed gears:



But they did not say this was an x-ray of the machine itself.

The source also says things like "The authenticity of the find has been certified." Certified by who? Who knows.

Or "American geologists examined the machine and confirmed it was a machine." Which American geologists, do they have names? Apparently not.

Sad really.

As others have said - Weekly World News really isn't a good source. They basically make up stuff like
HEIDI KLUM DATING BAT BOY in order tell more newspapers. In a way they are kind of like a strange version of the Onion.

It could be that they are all clever hoaxes as yet unrustled, but I really don't trust carbon dating. I'm sure there has to be other factors influencing the decay of carbon atoms other than the mere passage of time, things like pressure, heat,charge etc.

Just for the record. Carbon dating is no good for things millions of years old, or even hundreds of thousands. It's good maybe up to about 50 000 years.

There are other dating techniques that would be more appropriate for fossils/material of this age. Handy link here.

Crinoid stems. Forgive if someone beat me to it. I've dug up thousands in one site in Utah. They can also have pyrite replacement and be metal.

Weekly World News as you have no doubt been informed by now is an adult comic book of sorts. Even the publishers admit the stories are fabricated.

Other current news, the hoax team is FIRE AND SMOKE, therefore they don't like this find. Its not fossil.

Its gears. PERIOD. OH give the child a sucker, pat them on the head and tell them they're eyes don't see right, that isn't gears, no, and then try some other explanation.

Did you even look at the post above yours...

That shows a larger picture of what the object the OP got the close-up picture of his "machine" from -- and obviously that larger object is a conglomeration of fossilized crinoids, NOT gears.

The person who made the picture in the OP simply cropped the image of the crinoid fossil, and tried to fool people into thinking they were gears.
