Oil find sparks new hope for Uganda's people

www.guardian.co.uk

"The discovery of vast oil reserves in Uganda has caused excitement across the country, and more than a touch of anxiety too. Energy companies have recently found more than 700m barrels of commercially viable oil in the pristine Albertine Graben region, representing the first major petroleum strike in east Africa."

"The first oil production is expected in 2011, though the peak flow of 150,000 barrels a day for up to 25 years may only be reached by 2015."

This discovery was in 2009, so it's not exactly breaking news, but I find that it is relevant to the Kony 2012 story, especially since the oil is just recently being sold. Feel free to move this if it is misplaced mods. I wonder if this is the reason Kony 2012 got so big so fast and seems to be involved with the same politicians who have started wars for resources in the past. Could this just be a coincidence?

That article was made in 2009, so about three years seems to be a right amount of time to plan it out. Typical considering they need something to bring the gas prices down, anything except drilling.

Can someone enlighten me as to why the world should care in the slightest about who or what is running Uganda? We have a world on the edge of war being major powers...as only ONE of several crisis that may effect hundreds of millions in direct, in your face, kind of ways. So.....Unless someone plans to do work in the nations around Uganda or actually lives in that region of Africa...this has relevance outside the region for what purpose?

There MUST be something here I'm missing. Something enormous....that makes this more than a distraction from those other things that may change our lives in meaningful ways. So, I do ask with open curiosity.....Why are we focusing on this..and SHOULD I care to learn more?

I know all about the LORDs Resistance army rampaging across that general corner of Africa, and I support Obama 110% in the special operations people being tasked to help local forces destroy that group of maniacs. It isn't something I can understand as being terribly important next to stories which may easily change the course of human history and the world future though...

So... Help? Thanks.

Actually, one reason US politicians are supporting this is because there is a bill, passed back in 2010, that says the US will provide the Ugandan government $10M dollars a year for 3 years to assist with bringing the LRA to justice and assist with 'recovery'. Here is a copy of the bill:

S.1067 - Lord's Resistance Army Disarmament & Northern Uganda Recovery Act of 2009

Section 9 of the bill deals with the funding:

SEC. 9. SENSE OF CONGRESS ON FUNDING
It is the sense of Congress that--
(1) of the total amounts to be appropriated for fiscal year 2011 for the Department of State and foreign operations, up to $10,000,000 should be used to carry out activities under section 5; andCommentsPermalink
(2) of the total amounts to be appropriated for fiscal year 2011 through 2013 for the Department of State and foreign operations, up to $10,000,000 in each such fiscal year should be used to carry out activities under section 7.

If you have watched Invisible Children's video, when they are celebrating Obama's letter stating he is authorizing 100 "advisors" to be sent over to help capture Kony and bring him to justice, this is the bill that essentially authorized that action.

Will this ultimately be about oil? Who knows... but at any rate, just wanted to add this to the mix. Make of it what you will.

Does a drug pusher want to the see the prices come down ?

Will Exon and Bp not have more then enough work to do when we liberate Iran ?

These bastards need to force up the price of oil and then force everyone to use the fiat US$ to buy the oil so lets just say they lost the peg to gold in 1972 and the $$$ is now oil backed as in you have any, we want it and you want any then you must buy from us.

This Kony thing stinks but i think, only think it has more to do with pushing China out of Africa and little to do with oil right now so lets see how it pans out over the coming weeks before thinking we have worked out the master plan.

This explains a lot,I thought there was something suspicious about the whole kony 2012 thing,I just couldnt see a motive to invade Uganda, don't get me wrong whats going on there is terrible and needs to be stoped, but i just couldnt see any country acting out of the kindness of their harts, now i know there's money involved it all makes perfect sense.

I wouldnt be too happy if I were them......The US will soon find a way to start civil unrest in Uganda now, and they will now be on the shortlist of a military strike against them, their people will be killed, their towns will be destroyed, and their leader will be hunted down and killed as well. Lybia anyone?......

Personally I think this whole Kony2012 thing is a test on how gullible the American public is and how much control / influence our children have on us and our decisions.

Wars don't last 20+ years without someone supplying the weapons and ammunition. It's rumored that China has been one of the nations trading weapons and other goods in exchange for natural resources that are found in Uganda.

Obviously this is another money making opportunity for someone. The USA wants in on it now and looking to sway public opinions. We need a reason to insert our military over there and the "boogie man" has worked great the last 3 or 4 times.

the problem is from divorces to bad parenting to molestation to sex slavery and kidnapping, a portion of r children have and will (sadly of course) always be exploited because of there innocence, and the powers that be know this, and use this to fulfill there agenda, the higher ups know that since the common man/women are generly more good than bad will do anything to protect a child weather its here or across the pond either way(ever see those commercials with the sick and dying children). the f uucke d up part is "that this world will never favor the innocent" never has and never will. i suggest that the parents that do get hug and love there children do just that every chance they get, but at the same time show and teach what this world is about and not just put them through the motions of school and the day to day things that run our lives that this society has forced on us, our children(i have a couple myself) need to know what to expect and whats coming and then prepare them for that, if we can collectively give this to our children then it might be possible to shine a little light in a certain dark future.
