What if an EMP(Man made or cosmic) strike North America and cripple not only the North American power grid but even military hard ware? What will be the geopolitical fallout? What will happen in the Middle East, South America Europe, Africa, Oceania and Asia? Will Iran attack the now leaderless US troops stationed in the Middle East? Will North Korea attack the South? What will happen to China and Russia? What about the Remants of the USN fleet all over the world?

Iran hasn't threatened to attack the US, so I doubt that...

North Korea doesn't hold back from attacking the south because of the US, so I doubt that....

Now China, might get an erection and capitalize on the mess any way they can. lol

But this is a serious question to ponder because this is apossibly

What makes you think it's a possibility? Do you have some information you'd like to share?

I could say anything is a possibility. (which it is) What makes your claim special?

And I'm serious. Its not like "ppl dont do this or that because of the US"... theres a much larger game.

Oh and My.mind... isnt china already capitalizing on the US already? lol

O it would be so bad. If another country was responsible it would send us instantly into a crazy WW. I feel that this is the next big threat. An EMP device would not be hard to create even for a amateur. I've looked into it cause i thought it was interesting and there are many people around the us that know how to make these devices. The information is all over the internet. You just need to know how to look. And if its that simple, which it is. Then we should worry. Cause u all know that someone somewhere is trying to make one of these and use it against our awesome nation.

I can't really get my head around a man-made EMP being so large that is takes out the US completely. It seems to me that, to effect the entire US, that would have to be one massive pulse. I'm not too knowledgeable on technology, but it seems to me to be about as probable as one rain system flooding the entire US.

Since you were not specific, the only answer could be war upon those that did the deed.
Fair enough answer? (Given the question?)

A large nuclear bomb detonated at high altitude (say 500km high) over kansas can affect the entire US. Thats what experts say anyway...

Well the troops in the field will not be leaderless they will be able to function regardless if the US has power or com's to what effect well that will remain to be seen. Now for geopol. I think Iran will keep on keeping on and just be a threat to its neighbors, Russia will make a move on the eastern block and the EU will be left to defend its own. NK will just put head lines in the local paper "God King Kim Il-sung defeats evil western world from sky". Pakistan and India will go at it over Kashmir (nukes hope not) and last but not least China will come a knocking on the US door telling not asking "Remember the debt we bought well its time to pay up" and then it wont be geopol. fallout but open war.

Just one way it could go.
OR the US could disappear and the world would be a happier place

Have you ever played around then accidently broken a widow or moms favorite knick knack?Do you remember at that second that feeling of "Oh crap I'm dead"? The world, every living person who could read, would feel like that if the US was blacked out.
Nobody would want that, nobody would attack us,they would be afraid of what the crazy American populace would do.
For years the "warmonger" thing has been played up both here and overseas as a propaganda. Most believe it.
Not to mention the cultural loss that no one seems to give America any credit for what so ever. The fact is I don't like war few americans do,but someone else seems to decide that above me.If there are no media available then it would be up to us.So the real question is what would YOU want to do?

The only way you would be able to cause ne real damage is u would have to have an ICBM. That def ain't gonna happen on the civ side.

when i hear EMP i think of project starfish prime. i know it can be done far more efficient now but it still pays to know where it started.

en.wikipedia.org...

Starfish Prime was a high-altitude nuclear test conducted by the United States of America on July 9, 1962, a joint effort of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) and the Defense Atomic Support Agency (which became the Defense Nuclear Agency in 1971).

Launched via a Thor rocket and carrying a W49 thermonuclear warhead (manufactured by Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory) and a Mk. 4 reentry vehicle, the explosion took place 250 miles (400 km) above a point 19 miles (31 km) southwest of Johnston Island in the Pacific Ocean. It was one of five tests conducted by the USA in outer space as defined by the FAI. It produced a yield equivalent to 1.4 megatons of TNT.

Starfish Prime caused an electromagnetic pulse which was far larger than expected, so much larger that it drove much of the instrumentation off scale, causing great difficulty in getting accurate measurements. The Starfish Prime electromagnetic pulse also made those effects known to the public by causing electrical damage in Hawaii, about 1,445 kilometres (898 mi) away from the detonation point, knocking out about 300 streetlights, setting off numerous burglar alarms and damaging a telephone company microwave link. The EMP-damaged microwave link shut down telephone calls from Kauai to the other Hawaiian islands.[4]

an awesome sight yet such a shame....

the whole link is worth a short read.

I think you'd find the US government and especially the military already has contingincies in place if such a thing would happen. They wouldn't be standing around with their proverbials in their hands waiting for China or anyone to attack while they were scrambling around trying to get everything started again.

It would be the average joe (as usual) that would cop most of the fallout. In the event of that happening, I don't think anyone in any what you would call an enemy position would suddenly mobilise and attack, it would take too long to get going in the opinion you would catch your enemy with their pants down.

There are much less complicated ways to take an enemy down, and using an EMP just puts everyone on alert, robbing the invaders of the element of surprise.

Hi, my (limited) understanding was if our theoretical EMP occurred electronic devices would fry. Now when I think of an EMP taking out the US I imagine it to be caused by a massive CME or solar flare. The very real possibility then is that not only would the US be effected, but much of the northern hemisphere, if not the entire globe would suffer a similar fate. Suddenly all but the most hardened electronics (or the lucky ones) are rendered useless.
As vital infrastructure (think dams, power-plants etc), hospitals, transportation, communications systems etc suffer catastrophic failures (and sure not everything will fail) most nations will have bigger worries on their plates than who to invade.

imho...folks don't realize how fragile The System is. even a slight interruption of the grid can/will cause confusion and panic. imagine a small/medium city when the groceries start running out and no one has radio/tv to know what's going on. yes, I know, a lot of us will be plugged in, but think of the mindless masses who won't be ready for anything.
EVERYTHING is computerized. imagine how many computers / trucks / depots / warehouses are involved with a single chain (Wal-Mart, Safeway). and the chain is only as strong as the weakest link; one area down can take down the whole system. (not an expert but think that's how it works).
I look at Occupy Whatever and figure our cities are tinder boxes just waiting to go boom. not going to be petty.

Interesting Info.

I also read a bit more at wiki on Nukes such as these tidbits:

en.wikipedia.org...

Between 1940 and 1996, the U.S. spent at least $8.63 trillion in present day terms[5] on nuclear weapons development.

In 1998, the country spent an estimated total of $35,100,000,000 on its nuclear weapons and weapons -related programs.

Weapons accidentally dropped by the United States include incidents near Atlantic City, New Jersey (1957), Savannah, Georgia (1958) (see Tybee Bomb), Goldsboro, North Carolina (1961), off the coast of Okinawa (1965), in the sea near Palomares, Spain (1966, see 1966 Palomares B-52 crash), and near Thule Air Base, Greenland (1968) (see 1968 Thule Air Base B-52 crash). In some of these cases (such as Palomares), the explosive system of the fission weapon discharged, but did not trigger a nuclear chain reaction (safety features prevent this from easily happening), but did disperse hazardous nuclear materials across wide areas, necessitating expensive cleanup endeavors. Eleven American nuclear warheads are thought [7] to be lost and unrecovered, primarily in submarine accidents.

A point most seem to miss is even if the govt knew who was responsible there would be no way to get that information to the public. An EMP big enough to knock out the United States would leave us with no TV, no cable, no radio, no internet.
Informing the average Joe of anything means guys with bullhorns walking from town to town as most transportation, jeeps, trucks, trains, planes would also be out of commission..........
which means an immediate end to food shipped into the cities (no trucks or trains).........
And no land phones, cell phones etc
which means you can't call a cop or report a fire
But then the police cars and fire engines aren't working anyway
which means ....................
Oh, I guess you can figure where it goes from there
