Was a doco on some kind of monster on TV tonight.
James just can't sing anymore but I had to turn it off when lars was speaking due to his sheer arrogance.

Well, ya can't blame her. Music soothes the soul. When I was growing up my mother played the piano and the organ in the house. On one side of the living room was her piano and the other side an organ.

I LOVED her playing all the time and it was very calming to me..I will never forget it. I still beg her to get another piano and play. She is retiring soon so I really hope she picks it back up.

Enter sandman was really the last song i liked by metallica, after that one became a hit... i kind of lost my interest for them for a lot of reasons not just the mediocrity, but things like Lars being a spaz and other various stuff.

Still have to give them respect for the old stuff though, they made it and it was epic.

My all time favorite album ever was ride the lightning. I played that CD so much i could swear the laser put scratches in it.

yeah..music is definitely something from the soul..I can't tell you how many days just being able to play some blues has relaxed me..i hope she picks it back up too!!

Still doesn't make them any less great.

Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Static-X.....you'll find a lot of great bands over the decades doing just as you described but are still amazing to listen to.

Metallica are simply a parody of former themselves now.. You could put them in a south park episode and not have to change a thing

Bands change. Cliff died. It sucked. But Metallica has changed with the times. Did they sell out?
Yes...every single concert they play they still sell out. People hate on Metallica because they asked that people PAY for their music!! OMG. It's such a crime to have to pay for music.

But it was more than that though. The whole Napster and record issues started after they did Load, and then Reload. Neither was well received. They cut their hair. OMFG!! How could they possibly do such a dastardly deed?

I posted here, in my own Metallica thread, any haters would incur the wrath of Load and Reload songs. Metallica is no different than the Stones, or Aerosmith or Rush or any other band that has 30+ years of selling music, and then selling out concert halls. Hating on them is utterly ridiculous simply because they were part of the movement that led the fight over their music being downloaded for free from sites all across the internet. But it wasn't just that. It was the fact that a song of theirs...a new song which hadn't yet been released was pirated and made it's way onto the radio from Napster or some other file sharing site.
THAT'S why they were pissed. I would be too.

Well..I happen to like both Load and Reload. And to all the haters out there....here is some Load. And it will kick you right in the teeth.


Now...for those who are mad about Dave, or Jason...well...here is Metallica. Just this past December. Seek and Destroy. Look who's playing. Jason and Dave. They were both there all 4 nights of their 30th party. If only Cliff could have been too.


Oh...btw. For all of the people who HATE on Metallica for leading the fight against free music downloads, here's a link for ya. 23 FREE full length concerts of theirs through the years. Yeah..you can buy more. But they don't not like people having their music. The used to encourage it from their fans. Bring recording stuff to their shows and record them.

But pirating new material of theirs before it was released was too much for them.

I love Metallica too. Do I like every single song of theirs? No. But I'm not gonna shelve their music just because they cut their hair, and want people to actually pay for their music.

Yeah...Metallica did a 4 day show in December in San Francisco this past December in honor of their 30th year of history.
They had all kinds of special guests. Jason Newstead and Dave Mustaine were there all 4 nights. But they also had other guests. Ozzy and Geezer Butler were there for one of the shows and performed Paranoid and Iron Man.Geezer played bass for them doing Sabbra Caddbra too. They even had Ron McGovney...who was the real first bass player for them...before Cliff. But he left before they ever recorded anything.
Rob Halford was there with them one of the nights. Even Animal, the lead singer from The Anti No-Where League was there to perform and sing So What with them. I'd love to post that video...but I'd get banned if I did..lol.

Megadeath even performed all last summer long with Metallica too during their Big 4 tour. People who hate on Metallica for kicking Dave need to understand he and Lars have made up.They are friends again. Jason has made up with James. He played often for a song or 2 during their Big 4 tour. And no one seems to understand that NO band ever plays for 30+ years and does the same music they started with. Like I mentioned earlier..the Stones are at 50 years now. Aerosmith and Rush are at the 40 year mark..or close to it. You have to change and adapt in order to survive! Including get a haircut on occasion. Even getting sober.

I just hate that people are down on a great band because they led the fight against pirated music. Don Henley was way worse than Lars ever was yet no one ever "hates" on him. But try checking YouTube for any Eagles or Henley solo stuff. There is very little of it. While there is Metallica music everywhere. People are just pissed at Lars for saying the newer bands couldn't make as much money as Metallica had if people were stealing music.

And yes...James's voice has started going. This last year or so especially he sounds bad. He often had other singers at those December shows...even the video I posted had someone else singing. Jason usually sang at least one song each night. Then again...someone who screams like Het did/does can't expect to be able to do it forever.
Geddy Lee can't hit those high notes like he used to be able to. And Rush often plays in a lower key now to compensate.

And MamaJ...thanks for the CNumb vid....it made me turn around and grab my strat!
