As AIPAC Conference Gets Underway, so do Efforts to 'Occupy' it

According to an IsraelNationalNews article, an organization called "Occupy AIPAC" has hijacked the Occupy name !!

AIPAC (The American Israel Public Affairs Committee) is having a policy conference in Washington D.C. --
March 4th thru March 6th.

The Anti Defamation League is concerned about antisemitism with the Occupy AIPAC movement.

Not much in the MSM about the Occupy AIPAC.

The Occupy AIPAC movement, which has hijacked the ‘Occupy’ brand name and continues to exploit the success of the movement as a way of linking the popular social protests with anti-Semitic sentiments, began on March 2 and is scheduled to persist throughout the weekend.

The event’s Twitter feed attempt to portray Israel and its supporters as a miniscule minority and accuses AIPAC of excessive control over U.S. policy. ‘Occupy AIPAC’ has posted feeds which read ‘We want our country back’ and ‘End big money lobbyist control of MidEast Policy".

The Anti Defamation League notes that “conference session that is likely to feature the most egregious rhetoric is titled ‘AIPAC: What it is, who its allies are, why it’s dangerous and how to stop it. It will feature, among others, Hatem Bazian, the leader of the extreme anti-Israel organization American Muslims for Palestine; Jeffrey Blankfort, an anti-Israel journalist who claims that the ‘Israel lobby’ controls U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East; and Alison Weir, the director of the Council for the National Interest.

So AIPAC doesn't want to speak against Occupy and therefor are labeling OccupyAIPAC as highjackers of the name and tactics? I love how AIPAC mentions that they are worried about antisemitism but they fail to mention that OccupyAIPAC was organized by Jewish Americans.

Occupy is in solidarity with OccupyAIPAC in it's efforts to protest against Israel's call for war against Iran as well as Israel's continued human rights violations against Palestine.

It's almost comical how wrong most of the media portrays Occupy. Linking Occupy to things they have nothing to do with and vice-versa.

ETA: Just to be perfectly clear that this is NOT an antisemitic movement the list of endorsers (found on the linked Occupy AIPAC site) includes American Jews For a Just Peace. As well as several other Jewish Activist groups.

And it looks like the Israeli government gets what it wants...again. This is what Obama said at AIPAC a short while ago. I'm sure the whole speech is online somewhere.

The funny thing is that when I (and many others) pointed this out last year these people were dismissed as “just some people in the group” and I was told they didn’t represent the position of the movement. In fact, most of the OWS'ers left hate Jews and blame them for all the problems in the country.

Thank-you for sharing that, unfortunately no one claiming Occupy is antisemitic will probably even watch it never mind watch all of it. I hadn't heard of the major Yom Kippur celebration in New York, but I was at Occupy Boston one day and they had an area out front of the encampment with signs all over the place asking for passerby's to please respect the space and those participating in Yom Kippur, as well as inviting anyone to join.

Seabag, I'd appreciate it if you would try to understand, that there is a difference between hating someone, and not wanting to allow them to have everything they want.

The Israeli government has become very dishonest, as far as its' use of the term anti-Semitism is concerned. If they want to go to war with Iran, and anyone voices opposition to that, then said people are immediately labelled anti-Semitic. If they stopped and thought about it for a bit, they might realise that maybe said people aren't anti-Semitic at all, but actually quite the opposite; if the Jews get into a war with Iran, then it's just as likely that they will get killed as anyone else. So opposition to a Jewish war with Iran, could actually be motivated by a desire to save Jewish lives.

I do not hate Israel, but at the same time, I do not believe that that country or its' government should be permitted to take over the world. If a parent has a toddler, and the toddler begins to drum its' heels and scream because the parent refuses to buy it a particular piece of confectionary, does that mean that the parent hates the child? It is not hate; it is discipline, and it is important for the child's wellbeing. As a conservative, I would expect you to understand that concept.

Most of the time, the accusation of anti-Semitism is as absurd an argument, as the toddler analogy above; and said analogy is also fairly accurate for why said accusation is used. You're considered an anti-Semite if you don't think the Israeli government should always get its' own way, every single time it wants something.

I hope those courageous OCCUPY patriots tear AIPAC a new one!!!! How dare AIPAC try to influence our government for their own interests!! AIPAC IS THE KKK FOR JEWS!!!!

Kudos on the video you posted…point taken. I feel a little better about OWS having watched the video. As a matter of fact, that is some of the best evidence I’ve seen to back up a point in support of OWS.

However, the Occupy movement does have a lot of anti-Semites in its midst. OWS marched on the Israeli embassy in Boston!! What does OWS have to do with Israel or Iran or Palestine??

Look at the number of people here on ATS (who claim to support OWS) who are the first ones to support Iran and Palestine (and any other cause that’s against Israel).

How many threads are on ATS about the Zionists controlling the world economies?

How many threads are on ATS about the Zionists causing the world’s problems?

How many posts have you read about Zionist’s controlling our politicians (there was a new one today!!)?

Almost all of these people are self-proclaimed OWS’ers. So I ask, why am I wrong to say that the majority of OWS’ers hate Jews when that’s all they post? I think their actions and words speak for themselves.

Again we are not. Plenty of Jewish organizations are against AIPAC, are they antisemitic too? Did you happen to notice the list of endorsers I linked to OccupyAIPAC a few posts back?

AIPAC is bad news in my opinion, lobbying our government to act as a war machine for Israel. I'm willing to bet more than half of Israeli's wish their government would stop the war mongering, I know there's a movement within Israel to free Palestinians and lift the Apartheid. Are they also antisemitic?

What a shock! Almost half the Americans want the same things!

That tells me that nearly half of both countries have absolutely no clue how to remain safe. I hope the minority doesn’t gain majority and leave both countries vulnerable.

I side with the Israelis (and Americans) who recognize evil and are not scared to KILL it. Others side with the naïve opinion that, if left alone, evil will go away on its own. History has proven this is NEVER the case.
