As some of you know, I'm a pretty spiritual guy.

I recently was reading about a spiritualist who believes all non-contagious illnesses start on a spiritual level, and then if the spiritual cause isn't resolved, it manifests physically with something like cancer or another health problem.

I partially believe that, simply because even if you're not spiritual you must acknowledge that stress and pressure can definitely do a number on your body, making certain cancers and heart problems more prevalent.

My question to this is, however, what about children who are born and get cancer? How, by this belief, are they mature enough to have spiritual imbalances or issues large enough on a spiritual level to give them cancer?

I consider myself pretty logical, and I have a pretty open mind, I figured I'd just ask and see what your opinion was on that belief.

If we know that radiation causes cancer why would you say that it's a spiritual cause? Even though yes, most people may agree that God can sicken someone at any moment.

Very very good point! I'll add that to the list of questions.

It's an interesting belief.

Love and light to you xx

walk into a cancer ward where little kids are undergoing treatment and why don't you ask their Parents if their little child somehow caused their illness 'spiritually'

I think security would be called and you would be escorted out very quickly or punched out by one of the Parents.

Hey now, that's why I asked the question -- the belief doesn't make complete sense

A close family member of mine has suffered re-occurring brain cancer -- she's 8. I by no means even suggested that was my belief in regards to children. I don't see how children in any way could be responsible for their illnesses.

I myself was born with heart problems -- that's what sparked my interest in the belief.

The way it works is through Karma. If you have the right situations or seeds waiting to ripen the Karma will develop itself. Karma works on a much more subtle level than just happening if you kick the dog you will probably kick your toe later on. The problem is that the mind stream which has not been purified carries over the Karma from the previous life, which is often why people are born deformed or ill. Through certain practise and meditation especially Vajrayana one is able to clean and purify Karma and body , is what I've heard. So the kids in this case would get spiritually ill or physically ill because of that. And if they are lucky enough to be born human again maybe they will have a chance to change any negative imprints on their future mind streams. Read some books by Kelsang Gyatso...for me info

Its always worth considering and investigating. The theory that its spiritual might tie in with the idea of positive energies. If you're an up-beat individual and have a positive outlook, the chances of you getting sick are dramatically less than normal (scientifically proven). Even the law of attraction (if you accept the idea) links in here.

Jesus

Look at the signs. So many people are getting sick. Yes, this relates to the inability to forgive for the sins against each other are so grave. So many hold on too long to the hurt, the bitterness, the pain and these all lower your body's ability to be a vessel of health and wholeness. You have within you the ability to draw healing grace to flood your body, mind and soul. Yet remember that you have as well the ability to draw disease and sickness into your vessels if you choose to hold on to unforgiveness. So be aware of what negative emotions you are holding on to and release it. And draw in my peace, my love, and receive my strength and healing. Remember that "I love you and want your healing" body mind and soul.

I am an agnostic. I was raised up a Christian but somewhere along the way I got fed up with all the dogma that was being tossed my way. To answer your question though. If cancer is caused because of some form of spirituality or stress it could be because of the parents. The child was in the mothers womb for 9 months and during that time the child is assaulted on all sides by the environment, whether it be good or bad. If the mother is under a lot of stress, pregnancy notwithstanding, then the child feels this stress also. There are some studies that show environment effects the development of the child in the womb.

Saying all that, I personally don't believe that we cause our children to have cancer because we are bad people. I do believe that cancer is possibly caused by either genetic factors and/or environmental issues such as pollution, the food we eat (that may be polluted with chemicals), etc.

Have you considered the idea of past life "debt"... even Karma?

You're born into what you deserve (imho)

There is a more complex system at work.
Units of an adult age who are consciously aware of fuel which they put into the human machine, are doing so through a process of ignorance or disbelief that it has no effect spiritually. Adults are beholden to a combination of environmental (affecting emotional, and hence physical 'health') and chosen Iife path.

For children, however, as another has posted, there is a carry-over of 'unfinished' business...the consciousness choosing to reincarnate, chooses the environment (circumstances) under which this will happen and in the case of children dying young - the consciousness that chose this is aware at the time of choosing (as we all are) that this is the case.
As bystanders, being not in a state that is able to 'see' this through the 'eyes' of another consciousness, are left with the harrowing sadness...

On the first paragraph:
Eating 'well' is not just a physical health issue. Chemicals affect the tissues of the body and brain to alter thought, that can spiral into altering consciousness (make your own conclusions!). Most, if not all, major religious establishments have dietary (or the remnants of dietary) observances...there is a reason for this.

On the second paragraph:
Children accept death far more easily, because they are both, unknowing (I say this loosely) of adult ideas on death, and what interpretations adults put on it...and, are much closer (in temporal terms) to the time in which they chose the path...there could be said to be a subconscious knowing. They are true 'gifts' for that short period of time, like being loaned a precious soul for that short period.
