In a clever subterfuge, Kirk transmits a message using Code 2, which has been broken by the Romulans. He claims that the Enterprise has inadvertently strayed into the Neutral Zone. Kirk also claims he will destruct the Enterprise using a corbomite device which will destroy everything within a 200,000 km diameter, and that the explosion area will have to avoided for 4 years. The Romulans give a little ground lest they be destroyed in the upcoming explosion, and Kirk immediately races out of the Neutral Zone and into Federation space at Warp 8.

I must be missing something. Why use voice?
Everyone and their brother has a computer now. You could use something like wspr or psk31 and it would hardly even be noticed. And it could be encrypted automatically. Easier than carrying a book around that could fall into the wrong hands. Or encrypted email.
I don't get it. I say deception. Red herring.

They make references of these sorts of transmissions in Call Of Duty "Black Ops"; the main character was brainwashed to hear these number sequences (to do some nefarious things) and at the very end of the game you can see a real life video of a woman sitting at a desk reciting the numbers through a radio. Pretty interesting stuff, I'd definitely like to find out more and see if anything secret is revealed, keep us posted!
