Iran ready to be paid in gold, nat'l currencies for oil

Tehran announced Tuesday that it is ready to receive payment for oil supplies in gold as well as the national currencies of importer countries. That’s according to Mahmoud Bahmani, Governor of the Central Bank of Iran. In trade operations with foreign countries Iran does not limit itself to dollars, and any state is free to use its own currency, Bahmani is quoted as saying by Russia's Itar-Tass news agency. He also added that if any client state wants to pay in gold, Iran would accept it without hesitation.

This will indeed tighten the noose a bit more... Didn't Gadhaffi try this? Move away from US dollars for oil?

Yep, Gadaffi tried dropping oil trade in USD before thing went down hill there. At the moment with all these banker resignations, maybe there is a growing change in the balance of power going on. China and Russia have already dropped some oil trading in USD and Iran has their support against an Israel/US invasion so hopefully go a bit better this time.

With troubling debt problems growing in the US economy, it is in the global interest to not be fully reliant on one economy.

All we need now is a few countries to remove private central banks and start buying oil from Iran... Talk about a power shift then...

This is the biggest threat to the U.S. - Saddam tried it and so did Qaddafi. The real weapon of mass destruction is selling oil for currencies other than the dollar.

I think that soon enough, Iran will be paid in Tomahawks...Heard that they are quite expensive, once the payment is started they never get late, and, most important, they always go to the exact delivery point.

I am a little off about this though. It seems as though Iran is open to various trading opportunities versus the dollar, not eliminating it as an option.

However, the fact remains that the USA Inc is very uptight about its fiat currency and any moves against it are construed as some sort of war act. Sure it isn't going to be an easy ride, but the fact remains we don't have the right to make everyone suffer under our BS pieces of paper. Let mankind make free choices as it was meant to and things will balance themselves.

This is the real reason for all the saber rattling against Iran. This is exactly why we went into Iraq and are now disrupting Syria also. Those are the three countries that never signed on to the deal agreeing in writing to only sell oil in US dollars.

Unless the dollar is used to buy oil, it's not worth anything; oil gives the dollar its value.

which is why it should be traded in gold, how can you purchas something that has value with something that isn't worth the paper its wright'n on?? if anything the oil selling countries are loosing in this deal swapping valuable oil for useless paper and they are aware of it. just most are too scared to switch to something else to trade in, except Iran.

I'm delighted Iran has done this, and I'm delighted because USA cant just invade this country like it was any other poor defenceless country it had invaded previously because its got Russia on its back
