The White House News Photographers Association holds an annual competition called "Eyes on History".

Mr. Harnik led the “Insiders Washington” category for “Fist of Support” — his striking image of Republican presidential hopeful Rep. Ron Paul, the frame dominated by an American flag and punctuated by a lone, powerful fist. The image also has been named “Political Photo of the Year.”

“Ron Paul was speaking at the Iowa State Fair last December, with a row of very enthusiastic military vets behind him. Ron Paul was looking very ‘Ron Paul,’ and most everything he said was well received,” Mr, Harnik recalled.

The winning photo:
"Fist of Support"

Im aware of their "communist connotations", but I was speaking on the fighters, rebellious, dam the man, fight the power meaning they have.

That and a raised fist "five sided fistagon" is their logo.

...Anyway, awesome picture. I appreciate you posting this.

THAT was the winning photo????

A badly composed photo with a tiny image of Paul grimacing rather strangely and a fist? It would have been a thousand times better if it'd been cropped and perhaps framed so that he didn't have such a peculiar expression on his face.

The whole composition makes him look tiny (almost insignificant) and as though he has a single voter. There are hundreds of better shots of him at the debates and so forth. It appears to symbolically dismiss him.

Maybe or could go the other way: the flag is the enormous republic establishment that has taken hold of the the people but has not conquered them, while the smaller him and the fist, they persist...
However, I agree if at all possible, could have been presented differently.

This moment represents the last hope for the US and the world as we know it. An important man will be lost from our history if RP does not succeed. Never have I ever heard a man, let alone a politician, speak with the conviction of the people that he does. Wish he was Australian.

Ron Paul - one man which could save America.

Sometimes you have to lose a limb, removed by your doctor, to save your life.

Figuritive to stop taking others wealth and resources - you will lower your living standards for a little while - but you'll live to be a great nation.

The fist is in the wrong place.

Anyway, Ron Paul actually won something!

EDIT: That flag has only 45 stars!
