I think that tragically it's rule by the stupidity of general public. Any sort of common sense immediately drowns in highly ideologically heated claims of almost religious importance of avoiding "socialism" at any cost, including the real cost to the health of an individual. The social costs are also hidden in reduced social mobility, when people cling to jobs for medical benefits, basically, instead of being creative and mobile. I know for a fact that with a few kids in teh family one has little or no choice but to work in mainstream industry and not in some risky startup, because clearly paying the sticker price for any medical care is just not realistic.

MILITARY RETIREES TO LOSE TRICARE PRIME
In nutshell, if my husband (Army retiree after 22 yrs service Active duty in the US ARMY) chooses to live more than 40 miles from a Military Treatment Facility (hospital on military base) we will revert to tricare standard... basically a huge deductible and an 80/20 benefit.

Not happy at all.
