Thanks for the further info Tinkerhaus. If there was a message, maybe it wasn't reported because kids say mad stuff all the time every day. Only rarely does it actually lead to something this serious but unfortunately these cases then highlight the fact that warning signs may have been present.

If the authorities acted on every message saying someone should die, etc, then schools would be shut pretty much 24/7 for all 365 days of the year. Like i said earlier, when you are young everything can be seen as an insult (or certainly taken as one). It is only when you get older that you realise how wrong you were about most things when you were younger! (and you definitely wouldn't listen to anyone telling you exactly that).

Thank you, gotta love Chappelle...for those ATS'ers that aren't around here, Chardon is an area between the suburbs and the countryside, not a place where I would think there would be a school shooting, maybe a pitch-forking.

Right but if the message comes from an identifiable individual, perhaps he could be picked up before he arrived at the school. I'm not sure if that would be better or worse though, as it presents an opportunity for a shootout with police.

In any case I am sick and tired of hearing about school shootings. We really need to figure out what is wrong with the youth in this country and FIX IT. I think it can be fixed.

I wouldn't limit it to the USA to be honest. There is a general malaise in youth in the West in general - that is not knocking youth, something must be causing it.

Maybe we need to come up with the technology for empathy chips in civilian guns! You know the sort of thing, "do you really want to pull that trigger? Think of all the consequences......" - ok, a bit of a silly idea but maybe something radical is what is required? I know the idea of gun control is universally unpopular over in the States so a different approach would be needed.

I think it's such a deep problem - any solution short of restructuring society and values is merely a band aid. =\

I am still watching this, trying to get a suspect name and names of the injured. They might not release the names of any of them if they're minors. =\

I am seeing reports now that 5 students were shot.

3 of the students were life-flighted to the best critical care hospital in the area.

Hey, at least if they ever invent the empathy chip type technology then it makes convictions ever so much easier - anyone pulling the trigger would have had a warning and a chance to think about what they were about to do.

The simplest solution is to start teaching responsibility again. Everyone knows their rights these days but most seem to have forgotten that rights go hand in hand with responsibility.

Ugh - licensed counselor talking on the local Fox 8 station talking about how parents need to eavesdrop on their kid's communications to look for warning signs.

I just woke up to this on CNN... story says 5 shot, no word on their condition, one suspect fled the scene on foot and is in custody. FBI is on the scene to assist the sheriff; sheriff is in command.

Thank God no word about fatalities.

And to whoever said we need to restructure society... we did. That's when the school shootings began.

Amen that sentiment sir......
This is abherent behavior as far as these are school kids here.....There should be NO reason for such things happening, now with it being sort of epidemic, i think we maybe should wonder about it dont you?
What does this say about US? (the supposed adults)
There is a severe mental breakdown happening across the whole of human society.Moral conscience is rapidly dissapearing from our bag of mental tools.....

I'm in Burton Township, about 10 miles from Chardon.

My wife called and told me that the kids in our neighboring school district are in lock down, as a precaustionary measure.

So far, 3 kids in critical condition at our level 1 trauma center in Cleveland, and one was taken to a local hospital. Something this close to home is very unerving to say the least.

I have to agree with the counseller.

I monitor and have monitored all of my kids socail media.

My girls are 21 and 22 now, and they always used to get made at me telling me that I was violating their privacy rights. I told them that they don't get those rights until they are 18 and out on their own.

My oldest called after she heard about the shootings, thanking me for caring enough to keep up with them.

The local Fox station is not confirming anything, but they have been talking to people that are mentioning that at least 1 victim has died. No confirmation anywhere else yet.

I am reading comments on my local fox 8 station that one of the kids passed away, but this hasn't been confirmed. On my phone posting so can't post a link. If someone can go to fox 8 Cleveland and post a link it would be appreciated.

I live close to there. They are called the hill toppers. There is nothing to do there besides maple syrup and hunting. This doesn't surprise me. All the kids in this area and were I live have easy access to guns. Some kid probably got mad his friend stole his girlfriend
