She said, "it has never happened here" and I replied that Christians had been bombing clinic and murdering abortion providers for years. Yes well.. When it comes to ideologies, you have to remember that if it wasn't religion it would be something else. People ALWAYS find a justification for violence. Wars have been fought in the name of religion, the colonization of the Americas was justified by religion etc. But were they about religion? Mostly not.

When people say that "religion should be banned" because it creates violence etc, they are misinformed. Their view is too narrow. You always have to remember that when we leave "the realm of the individual" and look at groups of people they always find a justification for violence. These muslims trashing the graveyard could just as well be nationalists or Arab socialists opposing western influence in their country.

Point of fact: "An eye for an eye" came before "Turn the other cheek."

Further, Christ also said in the Sermon on the Mount:

Before anyone gets that idiotic, and totally ignorant, wild hair, the Old Testament punishments for things like stoning for adultery and homosexuality were voided by Christ. MATTHEW 5:17 - “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them."

Christ continues this message in John 8:3-11

Christ also says, "Judge not lest ye be judged by an equal measure." As far as the gravestones go, I don't blame the Libyans for being pissed either. They had a good thing going with Gadaffi; and the West - British and U.S. in particular - stole that from them while they bombed their homes and murdered their children. I'd be looking for a little payback too.

How do you know its just because their Muslims and not because western forces bombed their infrastructure and killed their family?

I am questioning why they are protesting against only us, it is "illegal" to desecrate the Quran which includes writing in it which is why they were burned in the first place. Prisoners were utilizing the books to communicate with each other so shouldn't they be rioting against their fellow Muslims who also desecrated it?

All this violence over a silly book, i think Christians should riot and start burning down the local quickie mart in protest of Iran killing a priest!

No need to spend money on real estate to let the lifeless body to rest. Remembering the deceased by visiting a tomb is not the only way to remember them. They always remain in our hearts and minds. Do away with the entire burial thing and free up the real estate everywhere where it is expensive to book a burial plot

This way we do not have to worry about idiotic events like this one. I have always wondered as per how long the tombstones are kept in the same place in a cemetery. Theoretically wouldn't we run out of real estate eventually lets say if it was on a small island country?

I'm not seeing any evidence supporting the speculation that they did this in response to the burning of the Qurans. It merely states that it happened "right after" Obama issued an apology. I'm sure there were a trillion other things going on in the world, let alone in Libya, "right before" this event. Seems like some anti-Muslim poppycock to me.

Also, there are ignorant idiots in every society and religion. A Revolutionary War cemetery in my hometown of Savannah, GA was desecrated by Union troops in the company of Sherman back during the Civil War. Was the entire Union evil and fanatical? Well, that's depending on who you ask. Sherman was definitely off his rocker, but regardless, it just goes to support my initial statement of ignorance being everywhere.

There have been many events that I believe the Libyans, Muslim or not, are very justified in being upset about. Does that justify this particular incident? Hell no, but to speculate that the burning of the holy books is solely to blame for their aggression is ridiculously equivalent to saying one piece of straw is responsible for breaking the camel's back just because it was the last piece applied. We all know one piece of straw alone cannot break a camel's back.

i dont have it in me to look through archives of honor killings and bombings to find something good they did. but if you know of a story where an israeli saves a kitty or helps an old lady cross the street id love to read it.

If you are truly interested in knowing whether or not they are solely aggressive lunatics, do your own research, sir. Otherwise, you are just reflecting the opinions others have communicated to you in their slanted recounts of history, and that is a shame to individuality.

Call me crazy, but I'm sure this has a lot more to do with the fact that NATO destroyed their country only a few short months ago. Having their country invaded and friends and family killed by bombs serving an ulterior motive would piss anyone off.
