What is S + F?

Will someone fill me in on the lingo?

S stands for "star", above each post, in the left upper corner, you have the option of "starring" a post that is of such quality that you feel it should be noted.

F stands for "flag", which can be given to a thread which you think is noteworthy.

(this particular forum does not allow for stars to be given by the way)

Following explanations above, "S&F" is short for "Your post is so good that I have given you a star and flag".
(However, I have known people write it, and the star and flag count on the thread has not gone up at all!)

My personal definition: a meaningless statement made when simply awarding an actual star and flag would suffice.

I humbly disagree with you both....

First, I make contributions to threads I disagree with. The OP could get the impression that I would therefor not S+F his thread. When this happens in a thread that is moving very fast I like to emphasize that I do appreciate the effort or the quality of the thread by stating that I did "S+F" it even though I do not agree. Usually the owner of the thread is more friendly in his response and a more satisfying discussion takes place.

So from personal experience I'd like to think it's not a complete meaningless addition to a post.

And second, well...., it's only when we assume that "S+F" is the only thing in a post that it becomes a T&C violation. I've written long posts with the additional "S+F"-comment. There is nothing wrong with that, is it?

By the way......who flagged this thread??

Everyone should flag this post. I've seen more idiotic things make the main page.

You will see a lot of different abbreviations used here.

Here's a few of them commonly used here.

S & F = star & flag

TPTB = the powers that be

POTUS = president of the United States

IMO = in my opinion

IMHO = in my humble opinion

AFAIK = as far as I know

BTW = by the way

MSM = main stream media

In that thread you've linked, the OP got one of the abbreviations wrong when he was writing his OP.
To wit, he failed to grasp the ATS usage of "OP".
As in my first sentence, it means either the "Opening Poster", the one who starts the thread, or his "Opening Post", depending on the context.
