What it appears they are doing is looking for documents. They are tearing everything down to learn as much as they can about the regime. There are other reports where the soldiers were told to give up anything that they had gathered, ranging from Iraqi weapons to military patches. They are being extremely strick with things like this. No other army in history has done what we are doing now. In the past it was custom and tradition to take things from your enemy, like in WWII a lot of veterans have pistols and medals and things that they have gathered.
