These amazing pictures, captured by a NASA satellite, show a gigantic tornado moving across the sun. The tornado is larger than it might look - in fact, it is probably bigger than the Earth, and could extend hundreds of thousands of miles out into space. Amazing, this is really amazing, but I suspect it has to do with the same atmospheric dynamics as on earth. OK OK probably not the first but still amazing

it's actually just plasma, not a true tornado

Really cool, but it isn't the same atmospheric dynamics in any way. Instead of pressure controlling it, these prominences are the result of fluxuations of magnetism (which is listed in the article)

Also not the first ever, bottom of the article said it was captured on video first in 1996.

Regardless, still cool!
