Some new studies are indicating the chemical used in the herbicide Roundup (glyphosate) are harmful to Human DNA.

With many genetically modified crops being "immune" to the weed killer roundup, it's possible some overuse is making the problem worse, as well as "mixtures" with other chemicals that do not simply "dry up".

Sunday, February 19th 2012 at 11:00 am -- GreenMedInfo

Disturbing new research published in the Journal of Applied Toxicology indicates that genetically modified (GM) crops with "stacked traits" --that is, with multiple traits such as glyphosate-herbicide resistance and Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) insecticidal toxins engineered together into the same plant, are likely far more dangerous to human health than previously believed, due to their synergistic toxicity.

Resistance to glyphosate, the active ingredient in the herbicide Roundup, has been engineered into many GM plants, so that fields can be sprayed indiscriminately with herbicide without destroying the crops. While the GM glyphosate-resistant plants survive, they subsequently contain residues of glyphosate and its various metabolites (e.g. aminomethylphosphonic acid) that present a significant health threat to the public.

In this latest study the glyphosate-containing herbicide Roundup was tested on human embryonic kidney cells at concentrations between 1 to 20,000 parts per million (ppm). It was found that concentrations as low as 50 ppm per million, which the authors noted were "far below agricultural dilutions," induced cell death, with the 50% of the cells dying at 57.5 ppm.

The researchers also found that the insecticidal toxin produced by GM plants known as Cry1Ab was capable of causing cell death at 100 ppm concentrations.

Taken together the authors concluded:

"In these results, we argue that modified Bt toxins are not inert on nontarget human cells, and that they can present combined side-effects with other residues of pesticides specific to GM plants."

These disturbing findings follow on the heels of recent revelations that Roundup is several orders of magnitude more toxic than previously believed. Only 5 days ago (Feb. 14) the journal Archives of Toxicology reported that Roundup is toxic to human DNA even when diluted to concentrations 450-fold lower than used in agricultural applications. This effect is likely due to the presence of the surfactant polyoxyethyleneamine within the Roundup formulation which may dramatically enhance the absorption of glyphosate into exposed human cells and tissue.

Say NO to GMO

see the article for other links and details.

Many with vested interests say the chemicals are inert.

The studies suggest they are not inert, and are very harmful

Are "studies" paid for by Companies with Financial Interests Tainted ??

I say YES !!

There is a huge conspiracy surrounding the GMO crops that apparently nobody cares enough that's in power to properly investigate this stuff. I find it highly ironic that the FDA will conduct a whole under cover investigation into small farmers selling raw milk, but here we have studies coming out that prove GMO food is bad for human cells but the FDA doesn't even bat an eye. WHAT IS GOING ON?!

We have countries that BAN GMO crops but here we are living in the worlds most powerful nation yet we don't even have LABELS to warn us that we are purchasing modified food. All just to make huge profits.

As usual I'm predicting this study never gets the media attention it deserves to protect Monsanto and his genetically modified killers.

This is where the sheeple need to reach out to their representatives from the bottom to the top and maybe someone should tune them into the fact they don't have to leave the couch. Just grab a computer and reachout and most likely they wuld google who their reps are; but none the less I would think that they would be against the toxic modification of the food supply.

......now I digress and say - if it isn't offered via delivery or drive through...well enough said.

Murdering bastards, time to start doxing their families, kids etc, they will happily kill yours so posting their details online is acceptable if you ask me. Time to fight back.

Its in just about every thing, if we stop buying products with it in it then it will stop being used.

Easy... They work for big corporation than Monsanto and don't care a # about our well being.
It is the same thing how it works with pharmacy including even vaccines.
They only care about the highly biased and flawed studies funded by the companies themselves.

I'm saddened at the fact so many are willing to destroy and distort nature in this way. Its perfectly capable enough to produce food for everyone on this planet as long as we share and cut the greed. I've talked to people about this and most don't care enough to look this stuff up and educate themselves let alone take a stand against it.

I don't eat fast food strictly home cooked meals but how do you protest against GMO by not purchasing it when there is no label to let you know the product contains it. All I want is healthy food for me and my family and I trust mother nature not man but according to my government they make the decision on that not me
I really feel stuck on this issue and really don't see a clear solution short of mass protest which I'm all for.

The problem is we still have people addicted to the garbage that is fast food so trying to defeat GMO before we take care of that problem makes it that much harder to win this battle between greed/politics and mother nature. I love this planet, the animals, the plants, everything including the people, yes even the ones that are evil because hate breeds more hate. But if we don't get back even the basic needs and rights that we are guaranteed this marvelous planet and all its wonders will ceast to exist.

Everyone have a good day and please take time out to tell someone about this and also take time out to show mother nature she is still appreciated even if that just means star gazing tonight.

nice thread mate!

just made a thread about it and got redirected to this one.

already asked mods to close mine.

this is scary stuff indeed.

i've been following Monsanto and their practices lately and as the rabbithole got deeper the information got scarier.

we need to get rid of them.

S&F

i wish people would stop doing this

about the subject matter.

'cats are alien camcorders threads' got 200 responses and flags within a day.

yet these threads keep dying out?

priority's ATS?!?

I wish it were that easy. Here in America, corn and soy are in pretty much every processed food sold. I'd love to say that I have the time, energy, and money to buy all organic and cook everything from scratch, but I don't. I do what I can, but I know it's not enough.

There is also a big problem with cross contamination, and I've read that people are worried that we are going past the point of no return--even the non GMO crops are getting contaminated through pollination.

It's a very scary experiment, being carried out on all of us.

This massive agricultural cartel system has a lot of financial backers with profit motives in mind.

They do not care about the general health concerns.

They are most likely psychopaths.

Some other members here have been exposing these scams.

A lot of the problems are stemming from U.N. agendas IMO.

Just look at how the World Health Organization seems to "justify" the GMO question:

Q8. Are GM foods safe?

Different GM organisms include different genes inserted in different ways. This means that individual GM foods and their safety should be assessed on a case-by-case basis and that it is not possible to make general statements on the safety of all GM foods.

GM foods currently available on the international market have passed risk assessments and are not likely to present risks for human health. In addition, no effects on human health have been shown as a result of the consumption of such foods by the general population in the countries where they have been approved. Continuous use of risk assessments based on the Codex principles and, where appropriate, including post market monitoring, should form the basis for evaluating the safety of GM foods.

20 questions on genetically modified foods

20 questions alright !!

The United Nations Agenda 21 may be in play.

Although the depopulation agenda may seem far fetched, it still could be a cover story for the profiteering.

July 30, 2011

The U.S. Department of Transportation, in an Agenda 21 style order, has moved to essentially ban a large part of family farms.

For hundreds of years family farms have been passed from generation to generation and it has been a way of life for younger family members to learn and work on their farms.

New rules being prepared in Washington could change that forever.

Apparently discussions are now under way to require farmers to have a commercial drivers license to operate farming equipment. This would require farm owners to hire expensive commercial drivers instead of using members of their family.

Agenda 21 Coming To A Farm Near You As Federal Government Moves To Ban Family Farms

Agenda 21
This more than a 'conspiracy theory'. If it were just a theory, I would not be writing this. The fact is there is to much evidence that Agenda 21 is being implemented. What it Agenda 21? It is a United Nations plan to reduce the World's population. It appears that this plan has been and is supported by Bush 1, the Clintons, Bush 2 and Obama. It is part of the 'Food Safety Act' signed into law by Obama. Food is used as a weapon to cause illness and early death. Healthy organic food is discouraged. Access to vitamins and minerals is restricted. Foods genetically modified to produce toxic compounds are being forced on the World. Toxic herbicides are used in the growing of GM crops. Toxic vaccines become required for children to attend school. Many 'raw' foods such as milk are labeled as poisons. Wo be unto anyone caught buying or selling 'Raw Milk'. Toxic floride compounds are put in the U.S. water supplies. And there is even some evidense of Aluminum compounds being sprayed into our atmosphere.

Currently there is a petition in CA going around to force companies to start labeling genetically modified food once again, which was dropped by the GW admin..

Personally, I think we need a national petitioning system.

Good Point.

I also think a national petitioning system is necessary so we can actually vote on some of these wild legislations by Congress.

If we can stop some of the madness before they are laws, we could be much better off.
