This is going on right now , As I heard he's still in coma and fighting for his live.... A member of the dutch royal kingdom Prins Friso
was skiing in Lech Austria when at 16:07 the local media alarmed category 4 avalanche danger.

The avalanche was thirty meters wide and 40 meters tall
According to authorities he stayed under for about twenty minutes..
He has being brought to a hospital in Innsbruck.

Let's hope he recovers fully. I can't imagine the horror of being buried alive like that.

Keep us posted and thank you!

They say he's an experienced skier but the avelanche caught him at 12:15 and the alarm was at 16:07 , thats strange? He seems to have a skull fracture.. don't think he's going to survive this, its almost five hours later and still no news about his condition

This is very sad and unfortunate! I am from a warm area where it snows only about an inch every few years if even that..so could someone more knowledgeable about the snow explain a little more to me how that would have felt? You would imagine snow as soft if you didnt live around it 24/7, and I have a feeling since hes most likely in a coma it beat him up pretty bad! 20 minutes buried under snow that already roughed ya up, doesnt sound fun! I wish the best for the Princ, his family and any other person hurt in that avalanche! I do feel for him.. Nice share even tho unfortunate!

It's sad but also stupid that if you know that this can happen and you take unnecessary risk to go off piste , and you know there has been lots of snow lately in Austria, and knowing that as a advanced skier, you probably are trying to defy nature..

Very strange stuff going on here. There was an avalange warning 4 in place at the time he was out skieing. This warning should be regarded as extremely dangerous and much risk for accidents.

He went out with three other, to this moment unknown persons. These other three escaped the avalange and helped with the rescue.

Despite I do not agree with much of what the dutch royals do I feel sorry for the family.

So the question is ,did he ignore the warning, or wasn't he told about the warning?

i believe this to be true but the dutch media is keepin quiet cuz they can only report wat the dutch intellicence services tell them
im from holland this is pretty messed up
i wonder wat they will do if he has severe brain damage or will be in a coma forever
i wonder will they pull the plug or just lill him and tell evrybody he died in his sleep or somthing

Some more info about the circumstances..

Prince Johan Friso wore during his accident, no security against avalanches. That says Markus Amann, head of the rescue service in Lech.

The friend of the prince with whom he skied off-piste, did have a so-called ABS system with him. He therefore remained unharmed. If the safety system, that, in a backpack, is activated, there will be a large balloon out of the bag.

The prince had a transmitter in his coat down, that is transmitting. Therefore he had to be found quickly.

"We reached the place where the victim was by helicopter," said rescue worker Amann. "We knew someone about 20 minutes under the snow. After landing we found the prince in minutes using the device he was carrying.

thanks for the update, pretty stupid if you ask me.. why not carry ABS system if you can use it, and if you knew that there was a category 4 up ahead, if you like the thrill without protection , one can say you ask for this.. not very smart for a prince, now he leaves his wife and children behind...sad

Yeah, pretty stupid if you consider he holds two academic master degrees, space/aviation and economics.

Knowledge is something else than wisdom.
