What do these guys get out of it?

Sure the lulz... and the hits to give them that coveted youtube popularity... I hear that some channels actually get paid for a high hit count...

Then it occurred to me today that if one wanted to ensure LOTS of hits, all one has to do is get it posted on ATS.

After all with the millions of viewers that visit ATS any video is sure to get a fantastic hit count over night

Am I wrong?

Yeah, it happens from time to time that people link to youtube videos from their own youtube channel.
Its against the terms and conditions of ATS, of course to do this.
The less intelligent ones even use the exact same username here and on youtube.

Good question.

If we were to wear our conspiracy caps, we might even venture into the realm of..........disinfo agents!

What better way to link videos, just good (or bad enough), and let people speculate about it, while these posters have a good laugh at people trying to debunk it, while they have succeeded in spreading their disinfo, thus further damaging any credibility that the ufo scene might have had???

Well zorgon as we have so many suckers on here for any light in the sky videos what do you expect, I mean all you need to do on here is put best video/picture/evidence of a ufo and it gets star and flags by the hundreds.

Then we have the star and flag hunters on here who know this and use it at every chance they get, you know the guys, whats strange is even when YOU say its not what they think they will still star and flag away.

We have a few members on here that scour youtube/the net for any BS video and post it here, with a pathetic OP along the lines of "do you think this is real guys" to try and justify starting the thread, when probably they know its not what is claimed by the video maker! BUT why let that stand in their star and flag hunt eh.....
(then long list of members names I cant add for obvious reasons
)

Quite true... there certainly is a long list of debunkers that can't resist the urge to debunk every silly youtube video that pops up... They are driven.. is it stars? I don't think so... they just have this need.... and they pick those threads that are no brainers... Y a hardly see them in a serious thread...

Would those be on the list you mentioned?

Most of the videos including home grown ones, with their normal poor quality as all have, that give signs of being ufos ie, the last one I read today, zigzagged, don't get many stars. So if real hoaxers are counting on lots of stars, they aren't going to get them.

I don't believe very many hoaxed videos are made for that reason but tend to run with the cia/military disinfo counter intelligence movement.

Well there are many, but my favorite is the one I got this comment on from Phage

I imagine it's mostly just people who want attention/want to mess with people over the Internet. Some probably see it as a fun challenge as well. "Can I actually get people do believe this/how many people can I fool with this fake UFO video?" Then there are always those who genuinely believe they have captured an alien spacecraft on video even though it may be obvious to more knowledgeable people that it's just an airplane/RC vehicle/whatever else often gets mistaken for UFOs.

It's an endless parade of garbage, although HST UFO Hunters and UFO Files have shown a few clips here and there that stood up to analysis. And it's not so much the debunkers that shoot down the garbage but people who don't want it polluting the evidence but also want fellow ATS members to become better at weeding out things like blurds, etc.

I did explain before how people could get 100% legit, scientifically valid, debunkproof zoomed UFO video with time and triangulation data stamped on every frame. I just takes a serious group effort, which appears to be too much to expect and would perhaps spoil the fun.

It's the sickness in people. Why oh why...should anyone want to lie/fake a video of an alien being or a craft. It really gets to me. That's really not helping anyone, except maybe that individual with his "hit" count. So primitive are the motives.

But your post reminded me...how this era brought us youtube and whatnot...an ability to share knowledge, yet it has been corrupted pretty quickly.

If it were up to me...I would bring back the old laws. Anyone caught making fake videos under false pretenses...stone him !!!!! And I mean really stone him.

No....I'm not kidding...stone him.

What do these guys get out of it?

Money.I believe this is the answer to all our problems.
Apart from the reason about the youtube hits,i strongly believe that there is more to this than some bored kids having fun.
I mean that who ever is covering up the UFO phenomena(military, goverments etc),instead of making up a story everytime a good video or a picture pops up,they create all those hoaxes to ridicule the entire subject. When something real shows up they don't have to do anything.Everyone who is researching the subject will be more than sceptical, they will even try to debunk it.I think is a form of reverse psychology.

The main reasons for promoting hoaxes/hoaxing are pretty obvious:

- It can be funny (regardless of your thoughts)
- To show off
- Youtube hits
- Free VFX critique
- It starts discussion
- They're lonely
- There was nothing on TV

Ones I don't believe exist:

- Disinfo (Why do what other people will do for you for free ie disclosuretv sucks it up like an industrial strength sponge)

On a side note ...

Honestly, I find this style of discourse and pot shot stuff tiresome. It honestly just seems like maschoism/agenda setting. Making a thread like this it's pretty obvious someone is going to point out over believing types are a problem. Then it's a short skip jump onto nearest anti-debunker band wagon and into the sunset to arrive at believer vs skeptic town over the next ridge.

Ultimately, if someone says something wrong on the internet, someone is going to try and correct them. It is the law of everything. These videos thrive on that very rule which is part of the enjoyment I think people get in posting them. It's the same as people who claim to be an alien, Satan or the fifth coming of Jesus this year.

Also, ironically, some of the debunkers which respond to them are driven by the very same reasons that some truth seekers are. They want to find truth, and the quickest way to do that is to educate people sometimes. I'm not going to fill a board with any more negativity, or glibbly (read heavily and unsubtley) imply a person is a disinfo agent or fruit loop believe ... Yes, this sometimes causes a feedback loop creating a mega thread filled with face palms ... but it's no better or worse than the same feedback loop created by eye rolling emoticons, repetitive joke NASA acronyms, and periodic sarcasm punctuated by the ever-hated
conga line.

I really don't think this is anything to do with Zorgon's serious thread either which oddly seems to contain most of the persons who would be on a who's who list of debunkers anyway.

I do not think you are wrong. I do think some cross post their content from Youtube to ATS for views. The ones that puzzle me are the obvious CGI videos, the ones that even state so in the description, and the thread OP tries to play it off like there should be some real investigative work done. Completely ignoring the fact it is CGI and pushing people to look closer.

A few weeks ago a Texas radio station hoaxed a "sky sound" video and I decided the other day to followup and see if they ever came clean about it. Of course they haven't. But while searching around I found a blog that made a great observation:

The social media - the peoples media - is full of mockery and falsehoods.*

No because there is no need... Its not hard to find my threads and there are MANY other good threads from Karl12 Jkrog08(before he passed) Isacc Koi and many others

Problem is because they can't be debunked, they tend to fall off the page quickly because there is no argument, just a good presentation. And since ATS doesn't allow posts like "Cool thread star and flag
" and there is little to add or debunk, the thread just goes silent

The only threads that stay on top and get lots of attention are the fake and hoax ones that stay on top because debunkers spend page after page arguing with the believers

You guys are your own worst enemies
and I am not surprised that you don't know of the good threads. My serious one on Martian fossils got three applause but hardly any pages while two with sensational headlines got 20 pages tons of stars and flags in the same time frame. It was a test I did, in challenge to another debunker who asked me why I never did a serious thread... then never showed up when I did

Here is a list of Jkrogs top threads

The Kecksburg UFO Crash: December 9th, 1965
A Strange Afternoon: The Collinsville, Connecticut UFO Incident, December 13th, 1999
Yukon UFO "Mothership" Incident: December 11th, 1996
UFO-Aircraft Encounters: The BOAC Stratocruiser Incident and The "Gulf of Mexico Incident"
The Lakenheath-Bentwaters UFO Incident
The 1952 Tremonton, Utah UFO Fleet
The Chiles-Whitted UFO Incident: Eastern Airlines Flight 576 and The "Rocket Ship"
The Gorman UFO Dogfight
The Mantell UFO Incident
Three of The Best UFO Trace Cases (New Bob White Evidence Included)
UFO Crash Event: Shag Harbor, 1967
Three of The Best UFO Trace Cases

That should keep you busy for a while

Isacc Koi
Top 100 UFO Cases - Revealed!
Massive UFO disclosure in USA : A challenge for ATS

Karl 12
About 100 great thread

Its funny that I never see YOU (and the other regular debunkers) making any positive contributions to threads like that... I guess its just easier trolling the youtube threads

Yet... you were driven to come in anyway
Why did I do it?

- It can be funny (regardless of your thoughts)
- It starts discussion
- There was nothing on TV
- Was bored

Agreed....

Also, ironically, some of the debunkers which respond to them are driven by the very same reasons that some truth seekers are. They want to find truth, and the quickest way to do that is to educate people sometimes.

Disagree... what you say is true of skeptics... not debunkers. A skeptic is a want to be believer that just needs more proof than the extreme believer. A debunker is just someone with no life whose only purpose in life is to rain on others parade. If they TRULY wanted to help solve the problem and not BE the problem they would answer posts like ArMaP and Phage (and others) do... with facts and links to support it, not just make endless posts calling people names, especially new members getting their feet wet.

If they want to educate, then do so by setting examples not attacking with nasty comments. They could try creating threads to show their point

I'm not going to fill a board with any more negativity, or glibbly (read heavily and unsubtley) imply a person is a disinfo agent or fruit loop believe ...

Agreed on the disinfo agent... the government has no need to put any disinfo agents here. There are enough volunteers on both side of the fence who muddy the water... and 'fruit loop' is funny... a lot nicer than some words I have seen

Yes, this sometimes causes a feedback loop creating a mega thread filled with face palms ... but it's no better or worse than the same feedback loop created by eye rolling emoticons, repetitive joke NASA acronyms, and periodic sarcasm punctuated by the ever-hated
conga line.

That is my point... these fake/hoax threads would die a natural death if those that complain about being sick of them and how they are ruining ATS would just simply resist the urge NOT to play
. I know... its human nature... but are we here not supposed to be able to exercise more control? Hmmmmm

I really don't think this is anything to do with Zorgon's serious thread either which oddly seems to contain most of the persons who would be on a who's who list of debunkers anyway.

Actually you will see that list very rarely in the serious threads. Now if they did go to those... and added positive constructive content, then would that not be better for everyone?

I had one thread... the McMoon one... debunkers galore at the beginning... until it was proven to be 100% true... then they all went POOF.... back under the rocks like certain critters when the lights come on
One did however send me a u2u to apologize... then later did so in the thread

So I suppose this thread won't wake anyone up... and yeah I guess it will lean towards us against them... seems its the "natural law" as you say
